do you have some time to check out how it's done in other games ?

check out world of warcraft with this little addon http://www.curse.com/addons/wow/mik-scrolling-battle-text
or even better, this one: http://www.curse.com/addons/wow/powerauras-classic

that is the ultimate freedom in warning configuration

to qualify for a highly configurable warning system (in eve) i would love to see something like this:

first step: choose from an event (certain shield level, armor level, cap level, being scrammed, webbed, getting targeted, ... you name it)

second step: choose how the game reacts to this event (single sound, repeating sound, unimpressive warning (think of your effect bar), impressive warning (think of the current structure warning), screen shaking, screen flashing, ....

i am not really sure how one could implement this with the way eve works (i don't give a kitten if my carrier is webbed, but i am in serious trouble if my vagabond is). But the current implementation of a highly configurable warning system is not a highly configurable warning system, it's more me-ish, sorry :(

Hey guys. I just had a chance to see the ship/pod kills. AWESOME! Very nice work! It would be nice if the bodies were actually modeled on our characters, even if it was just on our screen :) I mean, you guys did spend all that tech and goodwill capital on creating avatars and WiS. That'd be a good way to use some of it.

we might be working on that :D

This is a somewhat(?) related question: do we really travel in our pod in our birthday suit? I guess I never looked at corpses I've podded before scooping them up.

Enter grid and you're already dead, destined to be reborn and fight another day.

This is in no way a demand, or what i personally want, but some thoughts about useful customisation.

  • Being able to change the red grids at the top and bottom of the the screen to different colours for different armour. E.g. maybe I'd want to change the red grids to be blue for low shields, yellow for low armour, red for low hull etc.

  • Being able to move the Shield/Armour/Hull/Capsule leaving ship warnings around the screen in the same way I can move my notifications and damage reports.

  • Having the percentages of my remaining Armour/Shield/Hull displayed next to those warnings.

  • Have an option to display the grids on the left and right of the screen too.

Regarding the pod death animation, I have a suggestion for the text.

  • When you're podded and you're staring at your bare ass naked corpse, perhaps move the red text about activating a clone to the middle of the screen, but 75% up from the bottom, so it displays above your corpse. Should be a lot more clear about what's going on as you hardly see it on the bottom left.

  • When the camera transitions back to the station and looks upon your shiny new pod, perhaps add a friendly message in the same place as the above text that basically says something along the lines of

  • 'Neural data uploaded, clone activation successful. To enjoy no loss of memory in future death, please remember to upgrade your clone'.

Obviously I'm not saying use this word for word, but to ease the transition and as a friendly reminder, something about successfully activating clones and that maybe it's a good idea to upgrade would be useful for both new players and forgetful vets alike. This text would display during those moments before the UI fades back into view, possibly with the text fading out while that happens.

Edit: Oops, I didn't realise this was in the same thread as my post above.

I can't figure out how to disable the "hull critical" flashy warning.
I unchecked the box for hull warnings, but it persists.
The warning doesn't re-appear if I eject from ship and re-board.

Gate jump FX:
I would like to see just few more frames of zooming in on - or through - the gate, before the switch to jump animation. The transition from gate zoom to the jump space animation is abrupt, I think it could use a bit more time down the gate and some transparency fade in the last frame(s), to smooth it more.

Also curious what customisation options are already implemented beyond being able to turn these warnings on and off?

I cant seem to locate a setting to turn off the flashing "hull critical" off without turning off the sound alert. i would like to keep the sound alerts.

I also file a bug report about code appearing on screen after my ship was destroyed and i entered a pod. Did you guys receive it as i made a mistake when loading?

Ah... no, I think the 2 alerts (hull critical and sound) are supposed to go together. I thought you just couldn't find where to turn it off.

And I haven't checked on the bugreports, but this "code" you talk about... is it the text that scrolls up and indicates the failure of number of systems in your ship? If so, it's by design Smile

How about a cinematic waking up in your new clone inside its stasis chamber and getting out, like in one of the trailers. right now we go from corpse to fully clothed on the balcony.

That would require them revisiting WIS.

And we all know how that'll come out.

Yaay!!!!

So I notice the "Hull Critical" flashy banner is gone.

That's a shame, I rather liked it and it made losing my ship feel closer to what the Origins trailer showed.

Perhaps two options would suffice for "highly configurable" - A checkbox for an audio warning and a checkbox for a visual warning. Keep them tied to the same % slider or give them each theiir own. Then the people in this thread who don't like shiny things can turn off the visual warning and the people who do like flashy things can turn it on.

As for CCP revisiting WiS, I have a little bit of advice regarding that:

A great many EVE Players tell each other to "HTFU" and "Deal With It" every single day, yet comparatively few of them actually know how to. Perhaps a round of training "Deal With It" to Lv II is in order for these people. It's not a terrible thing and it can be tied to whether you have CQ turned on or not. At the moment, appearing at the hangar console for your ship (with CQ turned on) feels kind of like a cheap respawn mechanic and not the resurrection-esque demi-immortality it should be.

Dearest space-faring colleagues,

If you thought all the secrets of Odyssey were revealed at Fanfest then it is my pleasure to tell you they were not. Team Pony Express are planning on dropping some seriously exciting changes onto the Singularity Test Server for a Mass Test on Thursday (Watch for posts from CCP Habakuk for exact time + details)

CCP Nimbus, CCP karkur and the ever-sarcastic CCP PrismX have been furiously coding new Ship & Pod death sequences that we're hoping will be ready in time for Odyssey's release on June 4th.

In the same vein as the new seamless stargate jump transitions, this work is a part of our drive to "fill in the gaps" in the flow of common EVE gameplay. The goal was that your ship would better inform you when it is in serious peril. It never felt very 'Sci-Fi' that your ship wouldn't make much of a fuss out of being blown to smithereens so we've fixed that.

In the last moments of being blown up your ship UI/HUD will look a lot more like it does in the EVE Origins trailer (at 3:23)

These new animated UI elements are tied to the existing Audio Alerts. We have created this feature with extensive player customization, some features we choose to be pre-calibrated but with this feature you will have options. You can set the thresholds at which you are warned or disable them completely and the new UI has been designed to fit with all other existing HUD elements.

Pod death will never be the same again either, before now it has always been somewhat underwhelming . You are immediately removed from the fight and a couple of seconds later you're back in station. This experience has been replaced by this new sequence:

Quote:
As the smoke clears from your decimated capsule your terminally wounded corpse will now be shown gently spinning as life slips away and your camera drones offline. You have a moment to reflect on your unfortunate demise and take in the scenery one last time before a new clone is activated and your consciousness is transferred.

These features are a work in progress and we'd like to get your feedback, please log into Sisi on Thursday to try them out for yourself.

Might as well ask here;

Is the turret audio for Hybrids being done in 1.0 or 1.1 Odyssey?

So.. I saw the pod sequence on YouTube and is this final? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6sbVgqejD00

When our pod gets incinerated by huge spaceship pew-pew, we see a naked grey plastic mannequin floating where our pod used to be? Being podded should destroy everything.

Am I the only one who hates this sequence? I'd much rather a cool explosion and just have the camera slowly pull back from the scene, perhaps some floating debris.

Being podded has never destroyed everything. Your frozen corpse is always left behind and that's what you see floating.

I agree, 20-25% more transition would be cool.
