After updating my Mageia2 set up I am unable to see anything after the start-up screen.

All I get is a black screen. I do have a cursor and by fishing around I can sometimes hit one of the dialog boxes and then that pops up and is readable.

What I updated was a lot of X related libraries and I think that is what has caused the problem.

I am able to get on-line with my reserve box but that is a little older and slower than my main machine,it has a smaller screen as well.

Has anyone any idea of what's going on here?

Start with a search on this forum for "black screen". I haven't had the problem myself, but I know I've heard of it.

Start eve in console and read what errors give there. If you do not find answers in google , paste errors log in http://pastebin.com/ and here url from paste with some comments.

Please post what wine version you are using. I gave a quick glance at the Mageia2 website and I noticed it has WINE 1.4 in the repositories so who knows maybe you are actually running a wine version that's ridiculously outdated.

I have solved the problem.

It was caused by the NVIDIA driver that I was using.

Sorted out what version I was running and after installing the latest NVIDIA (319.17) release things have settled down and I can see again!

Thanks for all the replies, they did point me in the right direction.
