Ive been playing this game since 2009, and i cant remember any emergency shut down taking more than 2 days. The last one just before xmas only took 30mins or so.

A Patch for Tyrannis brought the server down for around 34 hours in June of 2010. We got 250,000 SP reimbursement.


Ill give you that one, i was on holiday over the patch week for that one. However, its not quiet the 2 days and 1mil SP he mentioned.

@CCP Explorer, any chance on a dev blog/ forum post on the types of things that cause you to restart the server, and how often they occur, and the DT length etc.

Im just curious as to what can be fixed while TQ is up, and what cant be

I had a POS shooting me on a JB an hour ago (still running around in 1/3 structure), so suspect it's not all systems that are effected.

from experience in IT I can tell you, that REAL database issues can not be fixed live due to the nature of how databases work.
There might be an exception to certain types of databases under certain situations/environments.
Therefor a shutdown is required, then the issue will be fixed in the database, and then the server cluster is started again.
