Tengu still king of ye old Epic Arcs?

It's been a while since I did more than log in to check orders and chat, so I am not entirely up on the patch changes since last year. I have run the empire epic arcs a few times and the pirate arcs once each, though I don't know if I will repeat the latter this go around.

First go at it was with an overtanked rattlesnake, really obnoxiously slow to get around but got the job done. Ever since that one I went with the tengu for speeding the "go 20 jumps away," despite the fact its dps struggled at times, especially on rats where I needed to use EM over KIN missiles.

These days I hear rumblings of a heavy missile nerf and thus I don't know if the tengu will be up to snuff on damage despite being brilliant in the speed department. Are there any A+ alternatives out there? I can fly any subcap ships so skill is no object. My only request would be that it isn't outlandishly expensive to fit.

I don't have much experience on that matter (as I'm currently on my first lv 4 epic arc), but so far, I haven't encountered anything a Tengu wouldn't be able to handle. Yes, the HM nerf was there, but you only lost a bit of DPS and a bit of range.

Afaik, there are no rats on the empire arcs which require lots of DPS.. it might be slow, but I don't think the HM nerf has made it impossible to use a Tengu.

Yes the tengu is still the best compromise between A to Zed, time to complete kill missions, and tank to overcome the few mildly challenging encounters. If you really find the HML love-tap unacceptable, pick up a sliepnir. Similar tank, similar speed, better damage selection, but you will chafe at the range loss and tracking disruptor spam.

You can also use HAM Tengu for a higher dps (in the neighborhood of 1000 dps) but in short-mid range (about 29 km)
