I've taken a bit of a break for the last few weeks because of this problem...patched the game last night and played for a bit and the problem persists, it seems the patches released by CCP have done nothing to solve this issue. Not happy about this

I've been having these Socket Close error for the past few months now. It's annoying but I've gotten used to it (unfortunately)

Until last summer I had no problems at all, could log in two, three, four accounts without having any problems, and suddenly it starts.

I switch from one account to the other and while working on one of the characters, I suddenly notice the other logging out. That's right, socked closed.

Started happening a lot when I had more than one character logged in, but these days it just happens at random.

I keep on hoping on a fix, but I've seen topics like this pop up everywhere, and nothing seems to happen.

Same problem as above poster.

No problems until today. Not i'm having 20 sockets closed per hour.

The only difference was I installed sisi client yesterday and it wanted to fubar the icons for TQ as well, which was solved. On my end nothing else changed.

Will try other games.

Pinging 87.237.38.200 looks like this:

http://prntscr.com/41jjnz

But could also be problem with my ISP currently. Still checking it out.

I've had this problem since last week. it happens with eve, no other games affected. I called my ISP and blamed them for having **** hardware. they came to my house and brought me a new router, different brand. When I logged on afterwards it was stable for 4 hours in station and the moment I was engaging in a battle poof there we go again.

I've updated literally everything and it happens on all my computers regardless of what port (26000 / 3724 ) or connection type (lan / wifi) i am using. It also happens when I ping the server so its not just ingame i'm kinda lost now :/

I've also been getting this recently at exactly the same time every day ,17:30 in Germany, at first I thought it was my isp rolling my ip daily but it wasn't. I checked numerous things like updates downloading or other such things taxing my internet connection but could not find anything that was.

So I decided to run a tracert to the ccp IP and got and interesting result, see number 15 below.

Tracing route to srv200-g.ccp.cc [87.237.38.200]

CCP what the hell are you doing every day at this time to cause this? Or is this a known thing like a certain time zone logging in or something else measurable?

Your help in this is appreciated.

Socket closed is happening again there is something I noticed. Every time there is socket closed there is packet loss coming from CCPgames.com or tranquility or the server before tranquility:

Problems happen if packet loss is on:

ccpgames.com
87.237.37.246
87.237.38.200 (Tranquility)

or a connection between my isp and ccp.

as im writing this there is packet loss on ccpgames.com and tranquility itself proof:

Also something to note.

Dust514 a totally different game but served by CCPs server / isp also has the same problems. There is your concrete proof that its not your isp/computer though a small portion 0.01-0.10% may have bad network settings or connection its not the cause of this issue.

Socket closed means the connection has been reset and most likely not by CCP or Eve client but because of something else, like your ISP or another one between your ISP and CCP's network.

Packet loss of up to a few percent is normal, especially for ping (ICMP). Small packet loss will not result in closed connections because those packets should get retransmitted.

If you are getting corrupt downloads often, then this could also result in closed connections. The cause of this is broken router(s) somewhere between your computer and CCP. They have bad buffer memory that corrupts data packets in a way that is not detected by the TCP checksums (IPv4 checksum is not so good). this router should get replaced with a correctly working one.

To get close of what is happening, you would need to get something like wireshark (http://www.wireshark.org/) and monitor you traffic to at least CCP. Then when socket is closed, you can see what happened up to the time connection is closed. Keep in mind this tool is intended for network administrators and developers. Don't bother with it if you don't understand TCP.

Its not my isp I never get disconnected on any of a couple dozen online games I play only eve. Never get corrupted downloads of files ever. The router and modem are brand new. I'm on a high quality Docsis 3.0 120/10mbit line.

I was, and still am, having these socket closed issues. I used to blame CCP naturally :)
Strangely in my case I always get disconnected between 1 and 2 am local time (11pm to midnight EVE time) almost every day. There was literally a couple of days in 2 months of playing that I was not disconnected.
Then I started listening to streaming music while playing and noticed that music stops for a sec or two when I get disconnected.
Now I am positive it is not CCP, it is my ISP or something between me and CCP servers.

Think about this. Some people almost never get disconnected. Some people have the most severe cases of closed sockets. What is the same? CCP server! What is different? Players' ISP and location. What is more likely to be the cause of closed sockets?

Another patch pushed live, another instance of patcher showing "Game Offline" and evefile.exe showing as "incompatible" but either not even trying to patch or being completely unable to for one reason or another.

MARK MY WORDS, DEVS

Socket closed isn't an issue if it happens instantly and shuts down the client so at least you can warp away. Got killed twice today because the game was still running even though I couldn't do jack **** for a whole two minutes. My ship just continues to glide in space giving me the impression that i'm still online but d-scan won't work, modules won't cycle and most importantly, i'm getting shot at but my screen doesn't show it and my client hasn't disconnected.

Its not the wifi because I don't use wifi I am hard wired to the router.

Also ive had 10 socket closed incidents in the last day and half now while in minmatar space.

Its the first socket closed issue I have had in a ten year span of eve online.

Wifi my butt....

Since this is on page 2 and CCP is still not willing to say that its there fault or work with there paying customers to fix it. Well you can consider this a bump i don't really care.

There still happening every day. Some clients drop and others stay connected. So stop telling us our WIFI, Cable or whatever is it.
EVERY other internet service stays connected. And even some clients stay connected so my internet is fine. Also 9 years without network issues like this and since around Crius it happens every day. But of course my internet is it.
What happened with the extented downtime to fix TQ hardware? btw.

FYI,
I have successfully managed to fix my socket closed errors. In my case, it was caused by settings on my router. I don't know what triggered the problem with the router settings to start with.
I'm running Win 7 64 bit, my internet is ADSL2+ to a bridged modem and a Dlink DIR-835 router, cable to my network port. I'm posting this in case it helps someone else. This was my fix.

1. Worked out what the optimal MTU was for my connection.

2. Logged into my router. Under PPOE Internet Connection changed the MTU default to match what I figured out in step 1 above [1424 in my case]; Ensured reconnect mode was set to Always On, and [Maximum Idle Time was disabled/greyed out.

3. Rebooted router, connection has been rock solid since.

I wish you could search a thread for the last dev response, instead of the first, as that is usually something worthless like commenting on an avatar pic or dumb post... anyhoo, back on topic:

CCP's general response to this issue has historically been "Not our problem, work with your ISP or find a VPN to use"... well its not my ISP as the tracert gets off my ISP's network, it fails when it hits Level13's network, and several times as it hops across the pond. This is something CCP should be on the phone with these backbone ISPs to investigate and resolve. Oddly enough when they were having a really bad time with this a while ago (back in March I think), traffic was routing through Level13 and thus failing, but then a change was made somewhere and it started going through as6453(?) and suddenly everything stabilized and I didn't get socket issues again until it started routing back through Level13 again. At some point shortly thereafter it changed to a different backbone and it got 100x better again (not sure specifically as it just lists IP addresses, but one name it shows is gblx.net), until which point it got put back through Level13 and I have continued to get socket disconnects several times a day.

Where I used to work, if we had a customer that was experiencing traffic issues on some other ISP's network or specific backbone, you bet your butt the network team was on the phone with that service provider to find a timely resolution. CCP needs to sack up and find the solution as it has been ongoing for a very long time.

Looks like I'll have to start logging daily tracerts so at the very least I can nudge CCP in the right direction. If anyone else is experiencing routine disconnects, I would suggest logging tracert results to see where in the route the packets are having issues. Just can't say you are using whatever ISP in some town, it helps to give them the info they need to take this to the next level (not that they actually will... more likely they will cop out and tell us to use VPN).

*edit* I tried the MTU as listed above, and I am still getting dropped traces on Level13's network at the same spots, coincidentally, my brother's PC just had another socket disconnect as I was typing this edit. Oh well, good thought anyways.

It just started for me... i keep DC after logging to game(location PL) and got this silly infor Socket was closed.

Don't THINK it's ISP fault.... Checked all games i play online - all running swift (checked over 30 minutes) no lag ping in around 20-30 ms.... no time outs or such.... only logical explanation is CCP game server fault.

Tried everything(Run game on completely new switch/router/exchanged cabliong and ISP confirmed connection is stable and run like hell .

Well don't see any other option than CCP to look this ON THEIR SIDE.
