Automatic clone re-upgrade?

This is probably nothing new but a search for the post title turned up nothing, so If elt like droppign this in here.

It just seems like one of those 'nobody told me' things that's been fixed elsewhere (how many confirmation clicks do you need to accept a contract?) The fact that there's no notification popup to inform you of SP loss seems rather silly. But that's jsut hte tip of the iceberg to me.

Has anyone actually ever had a time where they said; "nah, I just want an Alpha grade clone for my 12mil SP character." I suppose if you're putting out a highsec jumpclone it could save you a few million ISK, but that's the exception rather then the rule (allow a box to be checked on jumpclone installation indicating you only want a barebones clone?)

It seems like common sense A) to notify the player immediately of any SP loss after podding and B) to default to automatically repurchasing the last clone grade owned upon death unless otherwise indicated.

Of course, the obvious rebuttal from my fellow bittervets is "This is Eve, stop being a dumbarse." However this ties into New Player Experience, if we've got these things in game that a new player is never told about that could cost them a big chunk of their skill training, I think we need better then a "clone out of date" textwall appearing inoccuously ont he captain's quarters TV.

And yes, before anyone asks, this did happen to me. Just now. During a jumpclone-deathclone shuffle. I am not pleased, of course, but figured the best way for me to avoid doing some destructive (in some way) raging would be to drag soemthing constructive form this. What do you guys think?

That's not how jumpclones work, and you already get notified of SP loss immediately.

The Clone upgrade has NOTHING to do with Jumpclones. It doesn't matter if you have the starting clone or the max number of clones your clone grade saves you from losing SP upon POD death no matter what clone you're conscience is residing in at that time. Just because YOU ignored the Evemail about your clone needing upgrade doesn't mean ALL new players do. Hell some Evevets lose SP now and again because we plain forget to upgrade (it's happened to me) and I still wasn't bitter, just mad at myself for being stupid.

It also has nothing to do with saving a little ISK, the clone grades at low SP are dirt cheap, if you can't afford them you're doing it wrong.

Capt. Malcolm Reynolds: "You have no idea how true that is".
