cloak limiting

the usual call for a way to kill afk cloakers but this time with a few practical ideas on how to do it

option 1
make it so that a cloak requires cap to use and while active your ships cap doesn't recharge.
to make this work by game mechaics it would multiply capacitor recharge time by 10000000 and have a cycle time. Its capacitor use would be dependent on ship size. Which determination of size it would use is still uncertain (mass sig radius or just ship class) but the desired end result would be a ship without cap batteries would be able to stay cloaked for approximately 30 min.

option 2
a module which disables cloaking in a large area of space.
I have it in mind for a pos version and a battleship sized module version. Both would have some fuel requirements as well as a spool up time of approximately one minute. During which time they are clearly marked on the overview and visually would light up like a star to the whole system.
the pos one would make cloaking impossible in the entire system for about 5 minutes after which time it would be unavailable for about 2 hours. Also inside the pos shield the visual effect would be negated.
The battleship one would have a maximum range of about 4 au and last 2 min. During this time it is immobile and cant lock anything. This module would either be black ops exclusive or given a bonus by black ops.

option 3
a specialized probe
this would be a single shot probe launched like a bomb
it then takes off at warp and disables all cloaks in a 1 au radius until it reaches its range limit.

none of these would be any form of detection and would still require normal probing to find the target ship

All of these have been suggested before, and all of these will be suggested again.

All of these break:

Bombers, Recons, Blockade Runners, Black Ops, Covert T3s, Scouting, Hiding, gatecamp running, Cloaky gatecamps, Combat probing, Covert Hotdropping, Ninja movement of caps and several kinds of trap. Congratulations! All these things are ruined to fix something that isn't even a problem!

An AFK player has never gotten a single kill mail.
Also search, there is a thread AFK Cloaky Collection Thread that has tons of bad ideas about cloaks, but then again if you were using the resources that were provided you would not have made a thread about AFK cloakys.

If you don't follow the rules, neither will I.

Right, when you fix local so that i have the ability to actually engage someone before they man up a 40 man fleet to fight my lone ship, then we'll talk. right now cloaking is a counter to local, cant touch one and not the other, cloaking provides the only threat in low/null to ratters/miners, since as soon as someone appears in ssytem, they can already be halfway through warp to their POS, remaining concealed is the only way to draw them out for a gank.

so yeah, fix local and null blobs and then we can look at cloaking.

and bear in mind ANY of the ideas you proposed would make Wormhole space ALMOST UNLIVABLE, since cloaking mechanics are a staple of our daily life, so any change done to cloaking must also have wormholes HEAVILY in mind.

so that ebing said, all of these ideas have been proposed, and all have been shot down in equally large and spectaular balls of fire.

Give us a way to force you guys to undock and move away from a station then we could perhaps discuss ways to tweak cloaking. Other than that, HTFU.

If it breaks hotdropping, even just a little, I'm for it.

Except, not, since this idea is awful.

Why do cloaks need limiting? What problem are you trying to solve?

Oh and a search would have shown you a collections thread, as pointed out by Omnathious Deninard.

It always amazes me how many scared idiots live in Low/Null who are terrified of cloakers and dock up the instant a neut/red is in system. Boohoo, waaahhh fix the cloakers, we want to live in peace in our little corner of Null. We don't want to ever participate in non-consensual PvP and those cloakers ruin our calm. Too bad, soo sad, go cry to someone else. Cloaking/AFK cloaking is there as a game mechanic and serves it's purpose exactly as proscribed. It's meant to produce a little paranoia in the effected system, it's meant for recon/intel gathering, it does it's job perfectly.

You know, all these threads about AFK Cloakers makes me think it's no different than the Highsec carebears crying about ganking. It's nothing more than players who don't want non-consensual PvP in a game about SPACE WAR!!!
