Part of EVE's appeal is also part of its downside.

People lose track of the fact it is nothing but a game, your whole eve life is nothing more than data on a hard drive on a server.

Yes it's good because of the immersiveness that people get out of the game, and Yes it's bad because people take it far too seriously.

I like how people pat themself on the back for contributing to a society which desires to make said persons cry at the first chance given.

Personally, I'll will never be impressed by the community, because I know much of the community is downright self-righteous scum.

That said, I know plenty of nice people in EVE and interact with them on a regular basis. However, these people are mostly rare and usually do not partake in things like forums. Save maybe Chribba. He's the only decent person on the forums.

The rest of you are drama hounds.

Even if we could get to the moon or Mars, why would we want to? Low gravity will destroy our bodies and send us to an early grave. There aren't really any resources there that justify it. Heck, we haven't even come up with a good commercial use for a manned space station. NASA can't even come up with enough experiments to keep the international space station busy.

We can get to the moon and mars, you mean humans specifically ? Once we have the money and technology the moon actually has a ton of very useful and atm very expensive resources along with the other planets and moons in our system. http://www.nasa.gov/directorates/heo/reports/iss_reports/ The ISS is very active and of course doesn't have a commercial use, it takes something like ten grand to put 1lbs into orbit.
