GSC mining with Retriever?

My first post on this forum, please be kind. Blink

Am I daft for considering GSC mining with a Retriever? Would it be better to simply fill my pockets and nip to and from my local base of operations?

If so should I then be looking at a ship with better mining throughput but smaller storage?

The retriever has an ore hold that can be larger than a jetcan, many times larger than a GSC. (GSC = 3900m3. Retriever ore hold over 27 000m3 with maxed barge skills, 25 000 with moderate barge skills)

The Covetor has a very slightly higher mining yield and a very small ore hold, it's designed for mining in fleets where there's someone hauling for you. If you're solo, the retriever and machinaw are usually considered best (though some say Procurer/Skiff, less ore hold, massive tank) because the mining yield is not much lower than the covetor/hulk, and you have that massive ore hold that means you don't need to use jet cans or warp back to station every 5 minutes.

mining with GSCs went the way of the dodo.

all GSCs are, are adverts in asteroid belts.

No reason to really. As Elena points out, you have a huge ore hold. GSC mining is a pain anyway. Don't bother imo.

^^ This

The Enormous Freight Containers (EFC) can be dropped in abelt and will not despawn, ever. They can be destroyed, but are much better than jetcan mining. They hold 250,000m3, and can be scooped by a freighter.

Mining to GSC's was never a good idea as a single cycle from any mining ship will be more than a GSC can hold. A well skilled miner will pull about 1500m3 per minute, or 4500m3 per cycle. a GSC only holds 3,900m3.

Mine with a retriever/Mackinaw into its huge hold. Or mine with a covetor./HULK into a EFC or ORCA.

GSC's are useless.

GSC mining was viable before the changes. Personally I would not say to use anchored GSC's now. They were good in their time but not now.
