What were your experiences in dealing with buying and selling wormholes?

Were their any precautions that you had to take?

Was there any scams or difficulties you encountered?

Just curious as how the whole buying/ sale side goes for a wormhole

Bought mine, was easy and no problems.

Cloaky scanner. Checking the forums for other people selling the same hole. Checking the history on the selling corp.

There are scams with anything. If they're willing to go with a 3rd party, they're probably legit. Half up front, half on transfer seems to be standard. If you're not ready to lose everything from the go, WHs probably are not right for you anyways.

Hire a third party. The vast majority of trades that make it to the third party level are not scams, as the sellers know they will not be paid if they bring a buyer into an inhabited WH. If you cannot afford a third party, cannot find one when you need one, or the other party balks when you suggest hiring one, do not trade.

How long is the gap between the new guys moving and the 3rd party handing over the money?

What protects the buyer from the seller having a fleet logged off in system, ready to ransom/ his stuff as soon as he has moved in?

Wormholes are generally fairly cheap. I guess if the selling corp wants to scam after using a 3rd party to sell the hole, there will be a paper trail from the sellers post, the 3rd party, and the killmails. It's a bit of a hassle for a few billion isk at most, and a total inability to sell wormholes thereafter.
