The art aesthetic EVE so casually threw away

For a long time CCP adopted the "that'll do" mediocre approach. Lacking balls, vision, artistic quality, excellence and awesomeness. Look at all the old characters, ingame effects and whatnot; yes they're low on polygons etc but the aesthetics are awesome, different and showing an eagerness to make something amazing.

These days it's bland, entirely forgettable, boring and grey. As if they just can't be bothered anymore to be awesome, or simply lacking the talent to make it happen.

Fortunately, my EveMon never updated the picture of my avatar so I can always see how I used to look.

Being a Caldari soldier, I used to have bandoliers across my chest. Some wrench-like object I probably swung as a club in a moment's fit of rage was slung across my pack. And after enough battles, metal plates and tubing as part of my cranial and facial features gave the appearance I might be a bit more machine than flesh at this point.

Now - clean cut? Check. Leather jacket? Check. Appear like everyone else? Check. What?

And so did every other Caldari Civire male back then.

Why'd CCP ever give up on things that look like that?

The old art style was not compatible with creating avatars with large breasts.

Please allow me to assure you that the Gallente see-through clothing was 100% compatible with said assets.

WTF are you complain about?
All of the avatar development was stopped. You wanted the ships only, so don't complain now. Get you ships, and a console shooter instead of of avatars, snd STFU.

in 2007 i've thought it's a sci-fi simulator, not an "e-sports" game. I'm not a teenager, how would i like it much?

Of course it is!
Just be sure to have some wires coming out of them connecting to some random piece of clothing.

Thank god they did, that style was like a poor imitation of 5th element missing all the notes that made it great. The new style is very slick, particularly for the ship redesigns.

UghPart of why I miss the old avatars was because the old Gallente were flamboyantly futuristic and weird to the point they seemed alien, and that was why they were awesome.

Now we look pretty bland. I tried to restore some of the craziness and Cyberpunk of the old Gallente with the intentionally mismatched hair color to the outfit and weird facial tattoo but it's just not the same...

Just look at the difference. Admittedly the new avatars look less like creepy zombies but at the expense of so much awesome...

Still not the same as when my clothes were made out of some clearly synthetic material, and I had some odd green implant over my right eye but hey.

I'm pretty happy Akirei no longer has to wear this.

But my dear, its what ALL of the ladies in Amarr are wearing this autumn!

But anyway, I personally like some aspects of the new look, while others not so much. Really if we had all the crazy stuff we could chose from, as well as the more reserved stuff I'd be fine with it. Personally, I think an even mixture would be the best.

I'm sure all that awesome character art was on the way, until a large portion of the player base cried "spaceships"... Straight

Now we're left with the incomplete clothing options, useless captain's quarters and a lack of imagination.

This is a picture from a new game called "mars", pretty sure it has nothing to do with EvE. I also imagine its from a high-graphics cut scene. EvE has plenty of those, with avatars that look loads better.

This guy has just linked it directly from steam.

Post with your main, like a BOSS!

And no, i don't live in highsec.  As if that would make your opinion any less wrong.
