So I'm training Caldari skills in order to eventually properly fit and fly an SNI for lv 3 & 4 missions. Everyone in my Corp and my friends recommend I get a Drake, use it for a while when flying in a group with them (though not on LV 4), then get an SNI when I further develop my basic flying technique. To be honest (and I know I'm gunna cop some flak for saying this), I can get picky when it come to ship aesthetics at times. Normally, I will simply suck it up and go with the ship I have to go with based onm performance specs and I know the Drake is outstanding in performance and so is the SNI, but if I'm doing security missions with no interest of PVP or flying through 0.0 space, then is it really that bad if I skip battle cruisers, get the SNI and do some missions, LV 3 minimum?

I know the Rattlesnake is better in every way possible, but the time to train and properly fit it would be really really long, and so I've decided that it is going a long term goal to eventually aspire to. In the mean time, I thought I'd learn off the SNI, do some easy low risk missions and learn the skills off that, rather than spend a fortune and have to make it all up again.

A cruise missile battleship will do L3 missions a lot slower than a battlecruiser because it has trouble applying full damage to smaller targets, and because it'll take longer to fly to acceleration gates. Do whatever you like, however. You're free to build inefficient sandcastles in your sandbox.

SNI is a Raven with more tank. RNI is a Raven with more gank.

Probably the hardest combat missions I've done were in the Penumbra arc, and I did those in a plain Raven, so I've never understood the allure of a Raven with more tank.

I would only recommend anything that uses cruise missiles to do level 4s and above since their damage application on anything smaller than a battlecruiser is horrible.

If you're doing level 3s: drakes excel at those but you can equally get away with them in a blaster ferox or even a rail naga. It's level 3s, mostly anything works (efficiency aside).

SNI can mount an absolutely ridonkulus tank due to its 8 mids and hull bonus while still having some resemblance of damage.

that's something I would use in angel space (yes adaptive invuls actually gives more tank than specific hardeners against them). 791 DPS with furies 610 with precision for small targets.

The rigs are going to be the most expensive part of that setup, tech 1 versions are absolutely fine though. The faction booster is actually a really good upgrade over the tech 2 and it's not that expensive (relative to the hull).

Last high slot I would just stick either:

1. cloak if you're afraid of being ganked in high sec (pretty impossible in a SNI unless they drop 50 battleships on you)
2. Remote armour rep for your sentries
3. Drone link augmentor so your drones shoot a bit further and you don't have to wait as long to use them (my personal recommendation). Your drones will have 84km control range at perfect skills which is in fact still lower than your targeting range.

Thanks guys, yeah I know it wouldn't be the most efficient thing in LV 3 (but I assume it would be impossible to get ganked there), but when I tag along in LV 4 with my corp, I'm sure this will perform nicely. As for damage to smaller ships, a bay full of light drones should suffice? Tsukino Stareine Thanks for the fitting list, I'll definitely try it out!

however if cruise missiles work for the LV 4 when using the SNI, what weapons should I put on when doing LV 3?

I thought the targeting range of an SNI it only 75 Kms? Unless that range increases from certain upgrades?

If your long term plan is a rattlesnake, you have another path you can take.

You could train the Gallente BS skill first, A dominix with light, medium drones & Sentries will chew through L3's in a very short amount of time. It would also afford the opportunity to learn the drone management skills the rattlesnake needs ... a 400m3 dronebay is good bay.

The Dominix shield tanks well, so there is no need to train the armour tanking skills unless you really want to.

LV 3 I shouldnt get Ganked right? LV 4 I do as a team with like four members sometimes more from the corp I'm in

Judging by the fit: pilot was an idiot and was close to the rats.

SNI targeting range is 75km BASE. I have long range targeting V which takes it up to 112.5km. IV Will make it over 100km.

At present, the SNI does allow you to fit more than one target painter comfortably (8 vs 6 mid slots). Thus better application of damage to smaller targets.

Maybe use your free new Gnosis for the L3's since it can use missiles/drones like the rattlesnake you want?

Looks awsome and will do as good of job as a drake if not better.

Unlike level 4s, lower level mission agents often give you missions that require long travels. Not that it's going to be much less painful in a Drake but at least better than slowboating in a Battleship (or of course you can just skip those missions.)

There is no need AT ALL for a SNI. just get a CNR and get over with it. It has better DPS, while having a weaker tank.

I've been flying a CNR for l4s and I didn't have to warp out once, it has more tank than you need

If you want to go drones, go get good sentry skills (t2 is good) a dominix, a navy dominix, then a rattler. The rattler has insane tank, but be sure to have both BS skills to 5 to make full use of the hull. the issue is that if you go drones, only gallente has drone boats (mostly), and gallente uses hybrids, drones and armor tanking, which is the polar opposite of the rattlesnake, which uses shields, missles and drones

honestly use a dominix, then a navy domi. a dual rep dominix can tank everything in a l4

a no rep dominix can tank everything in a level 4

it's called MJD (micro-jump drive) learn to use it and love it.
