i wasn't aware that folks in west virginia were able to read and write...well, beyond signing and making sure their welfare checks were for the appropriate amount. or perhaps to sign and understand their marriage license to their first cousins. or what parts they might need to fix up the car thats been propped atop a few cinder blocks for a couple years.

wow...that is a strong series of horrible generalizations i just posted...i'm terrible today.

but still finding humor in them regardless. Blink

Believe me, I was surprised about West Virginia myself (and yes, I know guys, I've been there).

This has my vote.

Surrender is still your slightly less painful option.

you can't save 'em all, though the thought is nice

imo, it's still off the mark of instilling a habit of dealing in empirical data.

but maybe the situation can only be affected so much, and piquing their curiosity is a small first step.

they'll learn, eventually. or they won't. chances are either way they'll live out their lives convinced they're happy.

these kids, I mean.

a kid doesn't have to be a genius to figure out if they want something nice in the world, it means they'll have to apply themselves effectively and operate in terms of cause and effect, and not live their lives by fables and parables, and analogies, and folk wisdom.

An american politician pushing for the promotion of science and maths, as well as better literacy? What is this blasphemy?

Baens website introduced me to the honorverse series, the empire of man series, the dahak series and the 1632 series, all fairly good sci-fi reads.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Relax, they're talking about the Bible. The Bible is the greatest Science Fiction story ever because a) it's a completely factual book with solid science and b) it's (only) fiction because godless, un-amerikun', heathen, liberals are too spiritually lacking to accept it (yet.)

The Ark of the Covenant is in fact a capacitor weapon. The designs are well described but I'm afraid to try it.

Well, yeah. You get the control circuit wrong, and it'll melt your face off.

of course, becuase if you really want in depth knowledge of what's going on in the US, go to a cheap British tabloid to get you're facts.

Better than American journals. They just report on Lindsay Lohan's latest menstrual cycle.

But anyway, it's in the book section of that 'rag', and came from reports on IOS9 and Blaster.

The Hindu scriptures are much better sci fi, they contain descriptions and images that describe flying machines, the after effects of nuclear weapons, and space flight among other things.

In other news, the George W. Bush presidential library has opened in Dallas. It has the Bible (King James Version), the Bible (Revised Standard Version), the Bible (Scofield edition, with cross-references), the Bible (King James, large print edition) and The Children's Illustrated Bible. And for some entertainment reading, Little House on the Prairie, Little Women, the Hank the Cowdog series, 101 Clean Jokes for Kids, and Reader's Digest.

Isn't Bush dyslexic? How can he open a library if he can barely read? Is it an audiobook experience?
