easy fix confirmed.... Put PC in microwave set to 5 mins, after smoke stops and is cool to tough go to the top of dorm room through off 15th story roof. Once all parts have been found from area ge on bike and run it over for aprox 10 mins. This should fix any problems you have.

Fix your pc. 90% of the time it's the power supply. Otherwise go to thrift shops and call your local pc repair people and get an old pc. You can run eve on an old as hell pc as long as your video card supports shader 3. Someone even came out with a new video card for a flippin PCI slot.

My notebook runs hotter at DNF than CQ ...

Anyway, if there was a way to activate the DirectX Reference Driver, you'd have a win.
Maybe ask CCP if they could implement that, it's just a few lines of code anyway.

Also, yes ... usually not the whole PC dies, but only a part of it.

Seems you should ask somebody who has a clue about it,
if he can fix whatever is broken ...

What you ALSO could try is installing a VMWare (or whatever)
and find yourself a virtual machine with a virtual gfx-card that supports SM3.

I recall people playing EvE in a virtual machine, so it should be possible.

Good luck. ^^

@Boris,

When the client starts-up, assuming you can get to the startup (logon) screen :-

Press ESC for the setup menu and turn off all effects, turn off HDR, Dpeth Effects, Anti Aliasing disabled, everything graphics-wise off or lowest setting.

If you are not able to get to logon screen, you may have to directly edit the INI file.

this guy has no clue what he is talking about.

Quite verbose for someone who actually has nothing to offer. Those settings go directly to the INI file, which I emailed to the Op.
Before you type anything again, please evaluate what you think you want to type. Troll along now please.

I already offered my advice a few posts above.

EVE won't run without SM 3 and the only workaround is to emulate SM3 in software (which is extremely slow and does in my experience not work well enough to even get to the character selection - but at least it displays the login screen w/o Maller).

You clearly didn't understand the issue if you think tweaking some INI file will change that. It's a hardcoded check for SM3+ during client startup that poses the problem (and with the static door/hangar pictures removed the shaders might very well be required even inside station nowadays).

In contrast to you I have spent several hours a few weeks ago looking for workarounds to the OP's problem as I own a laptop with the same Intel gfx chipset that I would have loved to use for changing skills, updating market orders and using chat channels.
