So, how are you? It's been a while since you and I looked at each other. Face to face. Things have changed, our opinions, interests and ideas have moved on, or themselves been morphed and changed by the experiences we have endured. We aren't who we once were, but we are now, stronger or wiser for it.

But we've also become distant. Alas, long gone are the days where in a moment of boredom, we would start a thread entitled "You laugh, you lose" and post random, if entertaining snippets of news or images of felines, canines or some other form of household animal or otherwise, caught in a snapshot of time where it would forever provide laughs for those lucky enough to see it.

But these are no longer the days. For we are a distanced community, we are worn down thanks to years of bitterly accepting sub-par grammar and/or spelling, duplicate threads, or irrelevant threads which are long overdue retirement. I, moreso than most I would argue, miss what Out of Pod Experience once was.

You can argue left and right that due to stricter rules, and a "better" forum software, the ability for us to lift /OOPE/ to greatness again has never been stronger, but I would argue a counter. Out of Pod was, during my personal posting peak, where I came for not-quite-IM levels of back and forth, a place to get occasional news, but dominantly a place to mingle with people who shared my hobby, and, occasionally, my interests.

So, in an effort to dispel my melancholia, I'm going to try to help rekindle that old flame I used to share with those of you who remain.

Consider this my way of saying, "I remember every last one of you, whether or not I was trolling you or supporting you. Whether or not I agree with you, or vehemently opposed you. You were all magnificent, and we should see each other more."

Also, if moderators read this, (And I know you will, as I'm pretty sure by now my name showing up on the forums throws up so many red flags for review-this-now you could use my posts to operate the disco lights as fanfest) please consider reviewing your stance on the various Avatar/Like threads. Pretty, pretty please? They can't just exist forever in Limbo, especially not in OOPE.

And to all of you who remember me, good or bad~

I see your old yet familiar heretical claim to OOPE. And I still say not in this lifetime.

By the way, there's not much worry from the mods. They usually only stop by to drop off dead threads wrapped in rugs. And the avatar removal service is still falling on deaf ears.

Go back to your Link-Fixing roots, Dietrich. We all know that /oope/ will forever be my land. After all, I own both of the ingame channel names for /oope/. So hah. That clearly proves my ownership.

I thought you could just use a user script for that and it would be "ok enough"... or am I misunderstanding something here about what that line means ?

We're talking about the moderators sweeping all those avatar above you threads into our domain. While avatars may be out of the pod they are still in game and that makes them Eve related. Those threads either need to go back to GD or be locked.

Who's got over a thousand more posts than you, despite having been inactive for near enough two, probably closer to three, years? [my dozen or so posts every six months or so not withstanding]

Oh yeah, I.

And whilst most of those are Gendiscuss posts, I have a much greater bond to /oope/ than anyone. The only person I would be willing to concede to is possibly Kirjava. But I consider OOPE more than just a lowly wench you lay claim to. OOPE is a fine maiden that you come back to repeatedly, because she is *always* there for you. You're willing to fight for her betterment, even if it is to your detriment. Even a lost cause is a worthy fight, for you should always be devoted. Always.

And like hell am I letting this place sink lower than it already is.

OOPE is my Fair Maiden.

You might be higher ranking on the all time spectrum, but look at that pathetic OOPE rating. 3.8K at 35%. You aint got nothin on my 7.2K Big 7-7. /flex Gonna have to spend more time with my mistress before you can take her away from me.

At this rate, Akita is going to step in and offer to cut /OOPE/ in half should we not agree.

Ahead of time, I'll take the half without the Avatar/Like spam. Cheers.

Oh and Dietrich, I bet you don't own both an Out of Pod Experience ingame channel and an /OOPE/ ingame channel. Guess who does.

Nope, I created IG OOPE because the people asked for an in game channel when you weren't around.

It's a pity nobody visits it though, the fruit salad had to go in the garbage.

Ha ha! The stats. And the graphs! For a minute I thought I was looking at the Russian Ministry for Emergency Situations' charts of the effects of solar electromagnetic storms on Earth geomagnetism fields.

Blane, watch out for the OOPE yellow Quafe shirt platoon. They should start popping up one by one any minute now. (Need to get my shirt, but had too many explosions lately and am a little space-down on my luck).

Hmmm ... OOPE is indeed a strange place and I have been haunting it for quite a while.

But besides some lost friends, the only thing I REALLY REALLY miss is the old tinfoil hattery of yesteryear.

I even once in a while post Lizardmen threads.

But yeah, OOPE is quite different from the 2006-2007 one I used to know , had a nice peak in 2009-2010 and then its been more or less a headless horse lately. We really need more new blood Big smile

Also, I was gifted with this video I want to share with the thread since I am good like that.

I can attest to this. I also know the owner of OOPE . That channel, my friends, was created by none other than me.

Since it seems like OOPE channels are covered. Maybe we should go and have a drink in the Greater Fools' bar ? I hope that one is a bit more crowded than the OOPE, IG OOPE, /OOPE/ ... channels.

I joined the channel weeks ago, but never have I seen anyone in it. Do you guys even log in?

To the OP: So I understand that the old, exiled silverback and former pack leader is coming back to his people after several years and is surprised that the new lion king has taken over and killed all his puppies? It's nature, the circle of life, deal with it.
Since you were referring to chan-culture terms several times in your OP, am I right to assume that you come from this background?
And that you are now bitching about the cancer that is killing /b/ ?
And yet you were mentioning YLYL (you laugh you lose) threads as the pinnacle of achievements in this forum, although you should know that these threads have always been considered concentrated cancer cells.
But, as always, there is a deeper, almost philosophical meaning behind those threads. Because you really lose if you laugh- because it means that you are still laughing at stupid old memes and ancient copypasta instead of providing valuable OC for the community.
Also, as a former alpha wolf of the forums, you should know that the cancer is a vital part of the greater good. For every awesome and fun thread, there will be at least 10 abysmal "rate my c*ck / rate my avatar /rate my XXX" threads. They act as a vent, keep newfags distracted and are easily spotted and ignored by posters with a little experience so that they can concentrate on the relevant threads.
There is no shadow without light and no light without shadow.
If you want to seize control of your pack again, I suggest you fight for it.
(not me by the way, I have no aspiration for leadership, I am just doing here what I do best, acting as a fire accelerant)

I'd like to apologize for the poor quality of the post above and sincerely hope you didn't waste your time reading it. Yes, I do feel bad about it.

The joke is, ultimately, that I consider Dietrich a good friend. I don't come from chan culture, so don't worry about that. And your whole Silverback /Lion King analogy isn't accurate because that'd imply we have ever agreed on who runs /OOPE/

I should also clarify that my definition of trolling is not "lol noob *insults*", but yeah, I should have made that clearer considering nobody seems to know what trolling really is. Cause that ain't it.

And the whole point of YLYL threads on /OOPE/ was... let's just say it was different from the chan derivative when successful.

And baby, I'm all about the glorius Original Content.

Also, /OOPE/ is not a reference to /b/ /v/ etc. It's inspired completely separately from Chan culture.

Oh, sorry then, good sir. What?

May your days in OOPE be glorious and plenty.

It might be of interest then for you that Mr. Dietrich linked a very enlightening article about a month ago about words that have become meaningless to a point of irrelevance. "Trolling" is one of them and I have decided to stop using this word (even though I must admit that it sometimes still slips through).
The only problem now is that we are lacking a word for what we used to mean when we talked about "trolling" in the past. Sad

I'd like to apologize for the poor quality of the post above and sincerely hope you didn't waste your time reading it. Yes, I do feel bad about it.

YLYL threads were better back in the day because we were actually able to directly post pictures into the threads. For some reason the devs would remove most pictures from threads and ask us not to use that option but the YLYL thread was always the exception.

The main reason YLYL threads were the exception is that they occurred in Out of Pod, the mods at the time were flexible, and they knew that people entering YLYL threads understood there would be embedded images, where as to the rest of the forum they didn't want people embedding images because of possible bandwidth issues people would encounter, etc. Which is much less of a problem these days.

The one thing I don't get is why Signature images got caught in the crossfire. Suddenly thousands of thought out signatures which had time [and in some cases, ISK] invested in them suddenly just... gone with the new forum software. And surprisingly, still not fixed. But hey, this forum software at least saves drafts, so there's that.
