This reminds me a lot of the pi speculation before patch, everyone stocked so much that when the patch hit for more than an year and even now some stuff is not profitable to build. The same could happen with ice seeing how prices on fuel, ice and isotopes have fallen down like a rock just few days after the hype.

the main reason why most higher tier PI products are not profitable is compression. try hauling a month's worth of P1 out of a C4...

If you ever mined Gravi site in Hisec, you are completly aware that amount of minerals in m3 on said gravi is poor in best case (50k-100km3 on average).
So when Ice mining will be moved to exploration system gravi Ice belts may contain very little of Ice.

Personally I think Ice miners will be forced to move to lowsec gravi sites or nullsec to keep Ice production volumes at current level.

what gave you that idea, was it fozzy saying that the new ice anoms will only produce 80% of current demand?

All ice anoms, not Hisec Ice anoms.

While in lowsec gravi sites are very common and plentifull, in hisec it's another story.
I probe 10 - 15 star systems each day and every day.
Sure we dont know how many gravi ice spawns there will be or how high yeld they will be but if CCP just add them to curent exploration system i wouldnt expect to mine Ice in hisec too often.

CCP has lots of possibilities to adjust the ice market, if it develops into an unwanted situation:

  • They can modify spawn rates
  • They can modify spawn size
  • They can modify production requirements
  • They can modify fuel consumption rates
  • etc

So the question is not what will happen like the consequences of some unavoidable natural event, but what CCPs wants to happen.

My guess is, that CCP wants to motivate high-sec players to move more into low-sec and null-sec. Unfortunately, that will not happen or at best in very limited quantities only. After more then 15 years MMORPG experience I can say, that carebears will rather leave the game, when it becomes to frustrating or cumbersome to stay, than give up their carebear mindset.

Caldari fuel blocks in particular are needed by carebears for high sec research POSes. When those blocks become much more expensive because of ice scarcity, they would just stomach the increased costs and raise their prices a bit. If the costs become prohibitive to continue with their gameplay, they may try to do something different in high-sec, or they would stop playing the game. Only a very small minority would consider to go to low-sec or null-sec.

Where we are back at the beginning of this posting. CCP will realize the effects of its actions to its subscriber base. If it starts to hurt, they will tweak at one or more of the above mentioned points. So in the long run, the price of Caldari fuel blocks will adjust to a generally accepted and acceptable level, in my guess not much higher then now before inflation adjustments.
