For those who are interested real actual Pirate corporations do sometimes take players who are very new as long as they show willingness to 'walk the walk'

A couple which mysteriously spring to mind are:

Black Dragon Fighting Society [BDFS]
Minor Threat [H4IL]

If you are interest in solo/small gang frigate PvP then low-sec corporations like these are a good place to look (or at least go get blown up by) as long as you don't care about your sec-status

It's always another option for a wannabe PvP'er although they do expect a high level or self-sufficiency and willingness to learn on your own but as if you hang around in low sec people from Pirate corps like those are often the ones you are asking for hints & tips 'after' you've been blown up they are certainly the kind of corp where it's easy to pick up good advice.

I have deliberately developed an air of cynicism that I originally intended to make me appear somewhat louche and caddish but actually comes across as irritable hostility combined with the unspoken threat of sudden violence.....

Hello all,

I am only about 3 days into Eve online and I am definitely impressed with the way it is going so far. The opportunities are endless and I am looking forward to the journey. I have played about 6 different types off mmo and am a pretty hardcore video gamer with a 3d HD projection screen set up (Nvidea 3d) and solid gaming rig. The immersion in Eve is quite impressive.

Typically, I look for a bit more of the "action" in video games and really enjoy pvp in most mmo's. With that in mind, it would be greatly appreciated if the following few questions were answered by many of you for some different viewpoints.

1 - Is "lone wolf" PVP style of play common and/or fun?

2 - I've heard that bounty hunting really doesn't pay that well and most people don't do it as a "main gig." I am interested in it eventually and would love thoughts here. Is it fun and rewarding?

3 - I have looked through countless guides and Evelopedia - still can't find a decent guide recommending skills to become a pirate hunter or bounty hunter. Please help link me something useful ?!!?

4 - If I cooperate with one of the "buddy invites" and sign up for a bonus of 250m ISK and a free ship ...will that boost me significantly closer to being competitive in pvp....? Do I need to wait a month or two for mimimum skills to train to be somewhat viable and competitive?

5 - Lastly, are there common 10v10 or more space battles in low security or no sec space that are fun events!??! Any links to videos or stories?!

Thanks eveyone...just trying to find my way. Cheers!

1) Yes, it is fun. It is also difficult. It's generally easier to do in highsec than elsewhere (hunting war targets, or members of your own corporation assuming you joined just for this purpose).
Remember that anyone involved in a 1v1 will escalate it to a 4v1 if they can, and you will lose a 1v1 if your opponent escalates before you pop them. As such you need to kill fairly fast if you have no backup.

2) Bounties are a very small income source, even if you are excellent at PVP. Most people that have BIG bounties are good EVE players. Most good EVE players don't undock in super expensive ships often. As such you won't see many big kills of players with big bounties.

3) You can't go wrong training for a tech 2 tank and a tech 1 cruiser hull with tech 2 weapons that make sense for that hull. Example: If you like the Vexor, you'd want all the prerequisites for tech 2 medium blasters, tech 2 heavy drones, and a tech 2 armor tank, plus Drone Interfacing to 4. You can win PVP engagements that remain 1v1 with less than this, but you won't win a 1v1 that escalates into a 2v1 often without high skills.

4) Don't fly what you can't afford to lose. You will learn a LOT more in PVP if your ship losses hurt - you will then analyse every lost fight and every lesson you can learn from them.

5) There are huge blob fights on occasion with as many as 1k vs 1k or even more. The smaller fleet fights mostly happen in wormhole space (where escalation beyond a certain point is extremely difficult) - there you will see 12v16 and similar. Google "Rooks and Kings: Clarion Call" for a video example.

If you like thief / assasin / rogue / sniper type gameplay then you would most likely end up in stealth bombers. There's plenty of stories of lone SB's lurking around in wormholes picking off unsuspecting pilots and flying away with more isk then most players make in a month .. or several months, or more.

As everyone else has already said though you're going to need a fairly good chunk of skillpoints for that venture. Skills and more importantly general game mechanic experience. If you really want to speed up the process you can buy a PLEX and sell it for enough isk to send you straight into PvP, avoiding the early isk grind.

As far as bounty hunting yep same deal except not through the bounty hunter game mechanic but through real players. Everyone want's revenge on someone else in this crazy game. Don't forget EvE is a sandbox wich means it's nearly completely a player driven game. All real world skills (good and bad) apply here.

One of these days I'm going to get into SB's .. that guy makes it look so fun.
