Hello. 5 days ago I was playing EvE just fine on my laptop with up to 7 accounts logged in at all time including a PVP pilot and never had any issues with game performance. All of a sudden I can't even play on the PVP account alone because of choppy game play my laptop puts out.

My labtop is an Asus Republic of Gamers G74S - MS Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit Sp1 / Intel core i7 - 2630QM CPU @ 2.00Ghz, 12,0GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M.

I've tried reinstaling and updateing the video driver but with no improvement in gameplay.

From my little knowledge about software I belive something from my end is also wrong regarding the internet connection since I can't create any API keys and can't acces eve mails from outside the game.

Please help me and do it in layman terms. If i can manage to make my laptop run again for EvE like before I will award the one giving the solution a Plex.

Check your fan(s) and temperatures.

I cooked two laptops and two laptop video cards because of overheating. The first sign is reduced performance as the chips throttle themselves.

EDIT: Last I heard, API keys are still borked.

I have no way of confirming this as I don’t have a deluxe laptop only a standard one but from what I read on another online game forum a change may have occurred with a Windows update.

The change seems to give priority to any built in graphics card over a higher specification system card they assume to save battery power. This can often be proven by simply plugging in an external monitor (if you have one) in which case the laptop should automatically switch to the higher specification card.

From the same thread it seems you have to open the Nvidia control panel and use it’s setting to force the system to use the card over any built in graphics or it might be possible to do the same in the BIOS settings.

If you have a laptop with two GPUs built in make sure EVE uses the more powerful which would be the GTX560M. I had cases of customers complaining about similar gaming issues.

Sometimes the laptops seem to forget which card to use and just uses the crappy built in Intel GPU...no gaming with that one!

Agree with this one. Go into your escape menu in Eve under the Graphics tab and you should have a drop down for which GPU to use.

Also, make sure, if you're using more than one monitor that if your Eve client is in windowed mode that it's not overlapping the monitors even by 1 pixel.

Nothing works - laptop acts as badly as before. I am indeed using laptop monitor + 1 more. I'm guessing they don't overlap since I never had this problem before. Also the whole system runs like shite not just eve.

Would reinstalling windows fix this? Or if there's a less severe option I'd gladly take that path.

Running like that was done for the last 18 months with no issue. Do you mean for real the laptop as a whole might be damaged because of that?

Considering that this happened around the time of a windows update, I would suggest you try uninstalling the latest updates and see if that fixes the issue.
That would at the very least rule out if the updates are the cause.

Seems unlikely but could have suffered heat damage.

How does it work without the external monitor attached?

How hot is the air coming from your output vents?
Have you tried putting it on a laptop cooler unit?
Have you confirmed the graphics card is being used by EVE?

what fixed it for me (well, in another game -- eve behaved)

1. go to nvidia's website
2. download the latest driver (full utility package)
3. install/restart
4. go into the nvidia control center
5. use the control center to force the "high performance" card at all times

then, go to windows power settings and switch to "high performance" or whatever it's called (i.e. not "balanced" or "battery saver" -- though you can tell the computer to use those whilst on battery).

finally, a can of compressed air to blow out the dust and crap -- blow the air through the OUTPUT vents, this'll help dislodge any dust and crap from the heatsink fins.

If this still doesn't help, one of those cooling pads will help out a lot. Those two 80 or 120mm fans forcing air across the laptop cool it down considerably -- ESPECIALLY if the intake vents are on the bottom.

GPU and CPU have crazy good thermal throttling, so it's a pretty good bet you haven't burned them out. RAM is another story (especially considering the terribad RAM that dell et. al. use on their stock builds) -- you can usually pick up a few good sticks of Corsair or OCZ (etc.) for $100 or so.

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

I don't think it is heat dmg because it still runs...try disabling battery saver gpu directly via options...one way you can assume it runs low end gpu(it can say it use high end one but don't)...shuffling thru performance mods might(proly not) help

Restoring graphic card and or whole lap top to factory default might(or not) do the trick...maybe try system restore to few days before you notice it work like crap.

You choke behind a smile a fake behind the fear

No he's full of crap and a snotty pr1ck as well, no one deserves this.

I have 2 of those ASUS ROG Laptops the newest running a 650GTX I believe. But they both can run 7 accounts at once with NO problems, they are excellent machines...

Fortunately (thankfully) I haven't had a similar problem so I can't really help.

Actually, worst case scenario is to restore the rig to factory install, then reinstall EVE and see what happens. If everything works, I would be looking at some update somewhere. Which in itself can be a pretty slow process.

But if it is a problem right off the bat, then I'd say there is some hardware problem.

Some software updates can be brutal. I did an update from D-Link that stopped my router from working altogether. Thankfully I had a previous set up saved I could go back to...
