Actually, the alt doesn't have to be in a cloaky ship, it can be in an innocuous ship; maybe another Venture mining nearby.

Sounds like a New Order / James315 miner hunter. They are a group that suicide-attack miners in high-sec for extortion or just giggles.

You should right-click or search his name and add it to your contacts with negative standing, and this will let you know when he gets online. You should also beware of any other stationary miners that come very close to your ship, and should add contact with negative standings all "neutrals" in the belt at the time of an attack.

You should configure your Local chat window to show the list of players in the channel, and resize it so you can see the list at a glance. Anyone you've set to bad standings will have the red icon by their name, and you will have a few seconds to enter warp as they rush from the stargate to your spot. With a ship like the Venture you'll likely be away in warp by the time they get there.

This is a nice and cheap venture fit for a newbie, but I'd probably get a cheaper meta for the medium shield extender since the azeotropic ward costs more than a venture hull. Medium Subordinate Screen Stabilizer will do nicely.

Good point. I will edit the fit appropriately

The Venture has a warp core strength of 2, so even if you do get tackled, chances are it is a single point and you can still warp off laughing into the distance, I think you need 3 points to actually hold one down, or a bubble.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Err.. the pilot (https://gate.eveonline.com/Profile/Baron%20Vladimirr%20Harkonnen) is probably not New Order. Their methodology and style don't lend themselves to targeting ventures.

I won't get into a discussion about the goals of the New Order of Highsec but if someone is interested in finding out more they can check out:

This is a great resource to learn about suicide ganking and how to -avoid- it (if you can look beyond the bombastic rhetoric of the writing.)

apart from fitting your ship as suggested, I'd suggest mission mining.

security missions often have lots of ore asteroids in them, often way better than the belts of the same security space. if you also run missions, you can check for mineable asteroids by loading the mining preset in a tab on your overview. you get lots of time to complete missions and you'll make way more money than the mission bonus mining ones with lots of ore. clear the rats out of the mission room(s) and then come back in your venture to mine before closing them. gankers can only get you now if they have combat probes and they're very unlikely to scan you down when there are lots of nice easy targets for them in the belts.

also, there are three industry tutorial agents per faction so you can get free ventures by running the first two missions only. that'll help your losses a bit.

and the best advice is don't give up. you'll learn how to cope with this behaviour with experience.

forums.  serious business.
