It's because people look to validate themselves to their corp mates as "not another nerd" by saying they have a girlfriend/wife.

Some of it, yeah, probably. OTOH, my wife and family are *the* major facts of my life. They're bound to intrude into every other fact of my life as well. Can't be helped - nor should it be. Hell, my corp mates know about my dogs, too.

Tell someone you love them today, because life is short. But scream it at them in Esperanto, because life is also terrifying and confusing.

Eeeew. Don't even want to know what that's all about. Shocked

They have a crappy marriage. P

Are you suggesting their marriage is going down the toilet? Lol

True Story

I got a corp mate in real trouble once.

He said something like that: "wife aggro guys, im going to have to log" and we could HEAR her in the back ground.

So I say "hey man, just have your girlfriend light a cyno and jump over there till it blows over". The rest of the fleet had a good laugh, but the guy who was logging said "dude, why did you say that?" over the sound of her screaming at him.

Apparently he doesn't use headphones and his wife heard me mention him having a "girlfriend" which he tried and fail to explain as a joke...unsuccessfully LOL.

Two days later he was back on comms telling me "she keeps asking me who I'm screwing around with, thanks dude for making my life hell"..

Yep, EVE is real. Sometimes, keeping it real goes wrong.......

I honestly talk more about my cat and his shenanigans than I talk about my SO.

I kill kittens, and puppies and bunnies. I maim toddlers and teens and then more.

Wow I am so Lucky My girl friend plays eve with me and we have a corp together. My wife runs the R&D department. As my partner she always has my back. The best part about my significant other is that she will let me flop around on her. So my woman....ok ran out of ideas for this part but this thread has given me a great game to play in corp here are a few examples...

Alright people today we are doing mining ops, I have a wife, get your ships together and meet at XXXXXX. or
Doing LVL 4s hit me up, oh and i have a Girl friend that i can have sex with. and always...

The game at least once a day have to mention wife, gf, partner, or what ever you call it, in some random convo that has nothing to do with irl situations or events.

I usually don't go out of the way to mention it, but sometimes it can't be helped. ie: Me talking on vent/ts/skype, wife walks in and asks me something while my mic is on or yells for me, I say must go to she who must be obeyed.

Its not like i need to validate myself, but sometimes it can't be helped haha.

12 year olds have wives now?

damn...

Middle east/eastern europe/asia is weird yo.

Though, the world of warcraft one...I used to play the game with the mid tier raiding guilds, mostly because I would take a three month holiday every time an expansion was released. So many husbands/wives/partners playing together in that group. The only reason I wasn't the youngest in my last guild in that game was because their kids were playing too.

In all fairness to the OP who is probably gone by now (and if not why are you back, just leave dammit), he did post this thread before his ragequit thread.

Considering a lot of us late night USers in SC are older we often talk about wives or in my case husband. Probably trying to recapture our youth.. or something.. or maybe our spouse just plays a large part of our life.

Heck I often get "hey Lady how is Matt?" when I speak up when logging onto mumble.

Do some people try and squeeze the word girlfriend and wife in to just impress? They probably do, but I really havent found it to be common. Heck I think I heard it only once or twice during my online gaming time. But when you spend enough time on mumble or one chat your RL is bound to come up and if you are married well your spouse is a big part of your life, for better or worse. So it is only natural after all?
