@darmwand: so you're sure the CSM is at fault for things you dont like but you doubt they had anything to do with the things you do like. Ooook....

Haha no, that's not what I was trying to say, sorry if I failed to properly express myself.

I guess the point I was trying to make was that even with a partly-lowsec CSM it was very hard for me to tell whether they did anything "in my interest" so I wouldn't expect anything from a null-only CSM.

@Doom: That white paper langage was added in this years rewrite. Take guesses as to why.

ok I got what one you were responding too.

Well as to why it was added, how it will be used is to complain about officers and why they should be not allow to go to Iceland, especially if they function like the CSM7 officers.

Any spelling, grammatical and punctuation errors are because frankly, I don't care!!

@darm yea i got you now, makes sense. In practice though, an all null CSM would more likely misstep out of ignorance (oh, was that change important or something?) than deliberately leave other players concerns in the cold (psh, lowsec? **** those guys)

@Frying If the officers act like officers and uphold their duties then they wont have a problem

I am not sure how CCP could raise the profile of the CSM.

I do not buy into the "The CSM does nothing" thinking.

However, if the CSM were any other group, and the public (as in player) perception of them was either ignorance of their existence, or that they were useless freeloaders or CCP yesmen only after free junkets to Iceland, then a PR campaign would be launched to alter this perception.

Other Eve events make it into mainstream media, why not the CSM? To the best of my knowledge, it is a feature unique to Eve, and can serve as yet another USP of Eve.

Making the mistake of thinking players are not interested in politics, and that they find it boring, is the same mistake that is made IRL.

We only get to read about the heists, scams etc in Eve, and whilst this is what attracts many people to the game, others of us were attracted by the politics which occurs within the game, and the fact that the CSM even exists is amazingly awesome.

(When I say the politics in game, I do not mean the "Who are we resetting" drama, I mean the diplomacy, the discussions, back room meetings and other interactions which make eve unique).

I think with the present advertising ingame, there is only so much CCP can do, and the 125 page documents are TL:DR for many people.

Why not make some interviews on youtube, or arrange media interviews with CSM, past, present and future, with CCP stating how they view the CSM, and the candidates discussing why they ran for CSM, how their experiences matched with expectations, and what they would change..

Eve is always touted as being the "smarter" or "More difficult" MMO. Why not show how similar to RL it is, with proper press releases to do with the CSM.
We have everything RL elections have....last minute candidates, candidates with disproportionately large megaphones, gaming of the system "Talk to me, and I will make sure you get elected", joke candidates, candidates elected because of who they are, not what they represent, the underdog you want to win, but know wont etc etc etc.

TLDR: The CSM has the potential to be awesome, and I live in hope....but in the meantime, why the hell is it not covered in the "normal" media?

Exactly, but it is more likely given history as an example that some or all of the officers will fail in their duties.

I honestly hope they do not, and that they treat the offices that they take, with the respect they deserve.
