I wish I hadn't subbed, the skill point system seemed cool until I realized how long it would take to fly what people want, I don't feel like "tackling", seriously? I'm supposed to want to log in- to fly towards people to keep them from warping off while older characters kill them? If you can't kick peoples asses, its not a real game.

You should be more happy that you can actually do things that matter in a fight almost immediately after starting out, and aren't forced to run around the woods killing boars over and over for weeks to reach level 90 just because you feel like being a paladin instead of a priest.

May I perhaps suggest the Character Bazaar for those who are impatient-inclined and attention-deficit challenged.

You can buy PLEX to purchase a ready-skilled character if you want.

CCP's general trend is towards the removal of more powerful ships in order to give new players like you a chance. One day there won't be any ships left for us veterans to fly because the ships we liked couldn't be killed by a rifter, or were able to very occasionally blap a ship worth 1/100000th their value because its pilot made numerous compounding pilot errors (and that's obviously unbalanced, it should be impossible for one player to win just because the other guy had no idea what he was doing).

dps is perhaps the less interesting role in fleet, with initial tackle actually more engaging, swooshing around in a frigate

an ewar role should only be a few weeks off, that's some fun too

I can understand why you feel that way, but why not go and do something else rather than being part of a group that wants you to tackle only if it's a problem?

Unless you play in a MMO PvP game with a tiered system. Or one that makes everyone the same level in PvP. Which covers about all of them.

But otherwise you make sense.

The purpose of the long skill time is to encourage the player to learn about the game, its mechanics, its players, and what they are actually flying. nothing guarantees losing a new player more than them running out of the starting gate in what they naively thnk is a "1337 pvp ship" because it can blitz lvl 2's, only to get that one and only shp they own (selling eveything else because "bigger is better, right?") blown up.

after only a coupl months you get used to it and can start roling in specialist rolls wth even th larger groups. the skil system is designed to PROTECT newer players, by not only preventin older players from attaining an infinite advanage, but to also prevent the new player from entering into a position they shouldnt be in prematurely.

give eve a try, if you make it through te irst 6 months, youll never leave(barring extreme intervening circumstances).

also yeah you'll find lots of older dudes still flying about tackling things in interceptors

believe it or not flying "DPS" in fleets these days is "orbit anchor, lock primary, press F1" which isn't really that engaging

Your problem there is that you joined a no-pilot-skill-required blobbing alliance. People seem to have a good time in faction warfare, or in Brave Newbies. Look them up.

And at level 90 you get to go get your ass handed to you by immeasurably stronger opponents. While farming points for weeks and weeks in battles decided by which side has more afk bot point farmers and/or people like yourself. Just to spend on sub-standard gear that will make you at least not die instantly and let you start grinding more points for some better stuff. But by the time you get there and start collecting the better gear, there will be another content patch with even better gear making yours trash tier again.

Getting to the level cap on a single class in your average MMO these days, is roughly equivalent to flying a single race's T1 Battlecruiser/Battleship in EvE with relevant skills to level 4.

I'm really curious what exactly people "want" you to fly. You'll do about 60% of the dps but can get into a lot of reasonable stuff with skills at lvl 4 within 2 months. It will get up over 80% over the next month or two as you get your skills up if damage is what you want. You just won't have tank to speak of, because even if you had the tank skills up you will use the slots for fitting mods, at least at first.

Are you looking to fly a Machariel with T2 everything and all relevant skills at 5 or something? Or is 2-4 months too steep a level/learning curve for your taste in a new game?

Er... how long it would take to fly what... people want?

What is it that "people" want you to fly? And which people?

What do you want to fly?

100M SPs and I can fly anything sub-capital. I've probably spent more time in T1 cruisers than anything else.

And yet thousands of us kick assess all the time (i say this as a semi-retired asskicker lol).

The difference between us and you is that we understood the game we play is NOT about instant gratification and we put in the TIME to not only learn how to play, but let our skill points build up to where we wanted them to.

No, sorry, you don't get to skip in front of the line. Stay in your lane and bide your time, or leave.

Going to go ahead and agree with this post. Fleet/Gang DPS is really boring, and you'll find a lot of veteran players prefer tackle platforms (I love my Stilleto).

Not to mention a two day old newbie in a rifter will beat the seven hells out of a five year vet in a stealth bomber. This game is far more complex than you have given thought to.
