Hi, My name is Banlish

My campaign slogan: Less Clicking, more ass kicking!

I wanted to introduce myself as I've been running for CSM 8 out in 0.0 and within a tight group of people that know me. I've kept my campaign quiet and low key for various reasons but now with everything lined up, all questions and commitments answered I'm able to put everything out there for everyone to see, take measure of, and, if they feel like it, send a vote or two my way.

A little bit about myself
I've been playing the game pretty steadily since 2005, I formed a corp out of the CAS newbie corp and have been with the same corp ever since. Yes, I'm one of those guys that doesn't like to change corps, I don't steal and scamming isn't allowed under the DTHI ticker even in todays EVE where most alliances don't care if your members scam. I've been in the game pvping, pveing and doing the political thing for almost 8 solid years. I would be classified as a bitter vet, even though I still love the game, and I don't see any other game that even holds a candle to what we are able to do in EVE, with more coming down the pipe for us.

I've had a 'thing' for helping new players get into the game and stay here for a long time, to the point where I brought my (VERY amateur) writing skills to the game and began writing '0.0 News updates' and general updates for my corp or the alliances we were in. These updates eventually became the 'outpost updates' series I've started and stopped a few times during my career in EVE, this was basically just a monthly update to what alliances plunked down outposts in 0.0, what the good and bad of those deployments were and some ideas of how a few other outposts could make the region(s) better nearby. As with much in EVE, helping your corp has come first and in DTHI it was no different, after some very serious lows, I was tasked with rebuilding DTHI to better then she's ever been. With a very good leadership team assembled and vetted we worked at it for 1 entire year as of March, we rebuilt exactly as we set out to do and that let me take a step back to focus on other things, one of those major things was to run for CSM under the TEST banner.

Jobs and careers I've done in EVE
I've done almost everything in EVE you can think of here are the various jobs under some basic paths

Industry/Carebearing
Miner, Refiner, Hauler, low sec blockade runner, NPC goods trader, mission running, manufacturer, inventor, market trader, importer/exporter to 0.0, low sec hub stocker, researcher, plex runner, scanner, PI runner, wormhole incursion.

PVPing
Tackler, bubbler, HAC fleets, sniper, RR bs pilot, carrier (before triage), Dread pilot, LIMITED cap fc, logi pilot, Ewar pilot, surprise cyno pilot on a recon, heavy interdictor and general pvper

Corp/alliance/Coaltion leadership
Corp
I've been a CEO for almost my entire EVE career, only recently did I step back and give up the reigns, when offered the position back, I declined it and worked with the new leadership of the corp to rebuild our beloved DTHI.

Alliance
I've held the keys to more then a few alliances, ICA, Atlas 1, Atlas 2, and Cascade Imminent. In all 4 of those alliances, I was either leader or the 'top leadership'. Working with a ton of others, many with giant egos, taught me to be a diplomat and that long term is almost ALWAYS worth it over short term gains.

In another set of alliances, KOS and FLA, I was taught first hand how NOT to run alliances, from back room back stabbing to attacking members openly I saw the very worst ways to run organizations and vowed not only to never be that way myself, but to never expose my corp to anything so horrible ever again.

Jobs I did for the alliances
Minor Diplomat, Head Diplomat, Main recruiter, Rental director, 2nd in command, alliance head, logistics director, invasion coordinator. Other then I.T. department stuff, I've done EVERYTHING for alliances and now how they run inside and out, I've seen the parts that are easy as pie to the parts that are so maddenly difficult that I almost left the game (POSs, sov mechanics, renting)

Why the CSM is my focus for the next year(s)?

RL concerns
I've been very lucky in that my wife met me BEFORE I started playing EVE, she's seen it be part of my life from alarm clock ops at 4am in the morning to real life meet ups with a bunch of people. She's even made sure I know that she won't pull the 'Me or EVE' routine we see some people get trapped into.

Secondly, I own my companies in RL, I'm lucky enough to be my own boss and can take the time I need whenever to give time towards my CSM duties

I've been in game for almost ever, I was here before the first outpost was deployed or the first super capital was built. I've dealt with every buff, nerf and change, and after all that time I started seeing less and less of the people from when I started around. There are maybe a few of us 'ancient' guys left, and I'm hoping by being here so long, the tons of experiences and things I've done in EVE will give me the ability to be a true renaissance man for the CSM. All that means is that if a topic is brought up, I already have a very decent understanding of it, I might not know it ALL but I at least have tried it or looked it over.

I admit fully I don't know EVERYTHING in EVE by far, I'm very clueless about Faction warfare stuff, but I'm also not going to fake it, I'll go find any info I need to get the job done.

Communications
I already have a twitter feed up under Banlish Banlish Twitter
I'm getting a blog together with some help to give out whatever info I can legally
I'm going to try to write on the various forums at least once a month to find out what people outside my 0.0 groups are thinking and worried about the most.

Campaign slogan explained

After talking to a few former CSM guys and people that have been watching the process, I know, just like all the candidates seem to now, that focusing on any SINGLE thing or things to fix is a waste of time.

CCP will sit us down, show us a range of topics and get our take on them, and that's where I believe the renaissance man part of me will come in handy. As you can see from everything I've done, I'm not pvper or industrialist, I'm a bit of both. And I wouldn't want to be focused on one over the other anyway.

To be extremely clear and to make sure people 'get me' I'm going to high light this entire paragraph. I want to, if possible, make sure whenever CCP asks us about current or new features, I'm ALWAYS and I mean ALWAYS asking if there would be a way to reduce the amount of clicks or time it takes to set things up. Not to give tons more isk or an unfair advantage, but to make mind numbing activities less so.

Examples of above paragraph
In using POS arrays or labs, every single job has to be individually started, then select the activity, the array you are going to use, the result you want and then start the job. Over and over again, until all slots are filled, on every character, every few days. I'm not saying I can ask CCP to fix this ONE issue, but anything along these lines if they ask what my take on it is, I'd ALWAYS ask: "Is there anyway we can make the process easier and less clicking for the player?"

I know it's a small thing, but I want to be known as the guy that ALWAYS tries to make things that are boring after the first few times to be able to be either automated or just 2 or 3 clicks instead of 20 to 30 clicks for the same result anyway.

Good of the game over good of the moment
I have been in 8 alliances in 8 years, some as few as a few months, some as long as 3 years. Some of the people that were alliance mates in the FIRST alliance were shooting me in the last 5 alliances and now are blue again. That shows me that in this game, even ENEMIES are temporary and that long term, we are all in this game together.

I think 99.99% of the people in this game, if I ran into them at fan fest, or elsewhere in real life, I would gladly sit down (either for a drink or a meal) and talk about old times, current events and the game as a whole.

With that said, everyone knows that I've been a pretty straight shooter when it comes to 'fixing' the game or 'adding things' that don't break it. I can even dig up posts from 2005 where I thought adding a 'portal between POS's would be a good idea' that I suggested, not sure if I was the first but my god jump bridges came out and I got to see first hand the good, the bad and the ugly of what they did to EVE.

What I'm trying to get at is this, if it comes down to something like a short term gain for the HBC vrs a long term benefit for EVE, I don't even think anyone in the HBC coalition even thinks I'd vote for the option that the HBC would benefit short term. All the original sov holders in EVE are long gone, the PEOPLE in them however sometimes are still around and playing this game. And that's the point, the alliances and corps usually die and reform, but people still play. If I can help make even a small dent in the tons of issues that CCP will bring to us, then I'll be able to smile and say 'Yeah, I think I made a small difference' when my time with the CSM ends.

On txt walls and LONG posting.
As you can probably tell, I can get VERY wordy. This comes from leading alliances and a corp, there is ALWAYS a need to give out what info you can to even the lowest member. And everytime I've been able to do so, I've always tried to give people MORE info then less, and from experience that has ALWAYS been the right choice. Anyone can give a 'witty one liner' but from me, I'll write as much as I think is needed to explain all the possibly points and options and let the reader decide what they want to take from it.

I will try to give a TLDR at the end tho
Just as it says, I know I can get wordy and I'll try to give people a summary of it all to find out if they want to read much of what I write if it effects them. After all if I write about wormholes and POS moon reacting, most empire people can see a TLDR with that sentence and simply skip it.

Ego and Hubris
I'm not sure exactly how people will take me and my run for CSM, it's one of the reasons I write so much, I can't really 'get across' who I really am without you hearing me on coms or interacting with me. I really don't think I'm Egotistical or have a ton of Hubris when it comes to the game. Yes, I've done a hell of a lot in game, and been here a LONG time, but I don't think I'm better then anyone for it, I just want to fix whatever I can, however I can, without a ton of politics behind it.

I'm seen by many in the game as EVE's 'Deckard Cain', I can tell recall past events in a narrative that keeps you entertained and has tons of facts from EVE's past alliances, features and corps that maybe long gone. Some of it helps people in leadership positions now able to use me as a 'grizzled Sargent' to others 'an EVE historian' Some might say I know EVE history better then my own country of Orgin, and I'd have to admit they were right. I've lived through most of EVE's history and seen or been part of some of the things that have shaped EVE over the years. It's hard to not love to recall that stuff to those that WANT to hear it or read it.

Hopefully these two posts have given you a good indication of who I am and what I want to do, thanks for reading this old (in EVE) mans writings.

You might hear me say in the next weeks and months:

Stay a while, and listen.....

Great guy and understands a lot I could see him contributing well.

This is my gate. There are many others like it, but this one is mine. My gate is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my gate is useless. Without my gate, I am useless.

Banlish is one of the few people in the game that truly knows a lot of game, and is willing to ask about the parts he does not. He twants to help improve the game, 0.0 especially.

Reading Banlish posts on nullsec industry and on stations has enlightened me to aspects of the game I'd never even thought of before.

This man needs to be in the CSM, if only because he'd be a voice with his head screwed on straight. You want results? You want Banlish.

You have a twitter account?! 140 characters just feels so wrong for you. Anyway, see you at the top of my voting list!

Even if you hate the nullsec blocs*, a vote for Banlish is a vote for excellence. The dude understands this game inside and out, and has somehow managed to not become bitter despite playing it practically the entire time it's existed. Mind-blowingly insightful, always gracious, and a voice of reason that everyone should want on the CSM.

A fellow Battletech lover. One of the most knowledgeable guys around. Chill fellow, leads by example, always available, loves to write down stuff.

If he's not the ideal candidate for CSM, nobody is.
