How many four letter names?

I wonder how many four letter name players are still active? Haven't seen many left.

If you're driven to threaten others with harm or violence because of what they do in game, you can't separate fantasy from reality. That "griefer/thief" is probably more sane than you are. How screwed up is that?

This thread started fantastic. Went down hill fast.

The very sun of heaven seemed distorted when viewed through the polarising miasma welling out from this sea-soaked perversion, and twisted menace and suspense lurked leeringly in those crazily elusive angles of carven rock where a second glance shewed concavity after the first shewed convexity.

I could be doing this wrong but:

36*36*36*36=1,679,616 possibilities

That assumes we are using 26 characters plus 10 numbers. I forget if you can use numbers for the first character in the name though so this might be wrong if you can't use all numbers.

If that is true then a great deal of 4 letter names are possible.

[edit]

Let's say the first letter has to be a letter.

26*37*37*36=1,281,384 possibilities.

Why 37? Because you can use a space in your name.

I am pretty sure if you kept trying random combinations with spaces and numbers you will find a 4 letter name.

Looking to talk on VOIP with other EVE players? Are you new and need help with EVE (welfare) or looking for advice? Looking for adversarial debate with angry people?

Fun facts and good math.

On a side note, your sig bugs me. Fantasy doesn't have to equate to reality. No perspective can be understood without experience. That's why shrinks are usually nut jobs too.

Play for fun. Play to be free. Play the life you cannot live, and would not live, even despite the strictures of society. Don't try to pinhole everyone else as being criminals, though, just because they break the law in a fantasy game. Bad form.

My signature is intentionally designed to cause uncomfortable thinking.

You can say that fantasy doesn't equate reality, but it is impossible to empirically prove so it could always be a nagging thought in the back of your mind that it could happen one day.

You may say that if I scam in game, that I won't scam in real life.

But if you enjoy it so much, then maybe it is a sign that given the right circumstances that you'd enjoy it in real life too if the situation was the same (like a free pass from the government and other moral authorities so you wouldn't suffer retribution).

For example, I have the nagging fear that being confrontational on the forums will make me a confrontational in real life some day.

Don't fear that, embrace it. This world honestly needs more confrontation. People don't like their thoughts, their feelings, or their moral choices tested by others. But what they don't realize is the ability to adapt, to grow and improve ourselves ... that's why we are who we are.

I subscribe to the theory that people are naturally selfish. It's even touted as one of our primary survival instincts. And in society today, selfish behavior is often touted as evil.

But I don't see the correlation between 'the want to destroy another digital toon' as equating to 'killing another person'. As they are NOT the same thing. I do, however, see it as an extension of 'I have fun making other people pissed off.' That ain't evil, that's just selfish.

No one is killing anyone in EVE when everyone is technically immortal. What you are doing is depriving them of time and/or money.

In fact, I suppose you are in fact depriving people of actual real world time and/or money since at least one is needed to play this game.

Its not that farfetched to enjoy depriving other people of time and money in other activities as well?

And by that I mean through legal means. Simple things like driving slow on the highway and not leaving a 20% tip with your meals.

Do it like George Lucas did with his androids C3PO and R2D2. There is plenty of room for more.
