I refer to the Eve Live Events account on Twitter.
@EVE_LiveEvents

I know that a lot of people might think that live events are for RPers, but in fact, just about everybody loves a good live event. Even if you think RP is dumb, but like salvage, you can take a salvage ship to one and you won't be let down. I have lost a lot of faction modules at live events and I see others also flying elite frigates and losing them too.

It's also notable that with the suspect flag, the looting of any live event related "mothership" or whatever could also lead to PVP opportunities. In the previous live events, not just the one in Luminaire, there was a bit of that going on.

It's also worthy to point out that from one live event to the other I have run into and fleeted with players with whom I have done that only in that situation, so there's a kind of community out there that otherwise only gets involved on that level when there's something going on.

Finally, this is more than a game, it's a sci fi epic in the making, and being a part of the storyline in your favorite series is almost as epic as being in an episode of Firefly or Star Trek (were it possible). Who knows, maybe somebody will pull of some game-changer and be mentioned in a future Eve novel.

Given that, I'm surprised that this account does not have more followers. There's nothing more depressing than logging in or checking the forums to discover that there was a live event and totally missed it, even on weekends! Yes, nothing makes me want to jump off a bridge more than finding out there was a live event and I was wasting time derping it up on Facebook.

That's a qualification for slapping oneself real hard.

So if you like live events or what opportunities it offers, and you are on Twitter, consider following that account. It's the best way to know when something is going down when not logged in and in the Live Events chat, or cruising the live events forums.

Many intelligent earthlings don't give a fedo's ass about twitter, facebook, or any of that other garbage, and thus they don't waste their time with it at all.

Perhaps.

But when you can write your own app that uses the API and you get a popup warning about a live event without actually having to use Twitter...

But that's not intelligent I guess.

is there any reason i should follow this twitter if all live events are outside of my time frame? Never seen one live event which i could participate in.

There is a distinct lack of "API" in your OP.

CCP advertised the event on their website and on the splash screen for a few days prior to the event. They even went so far as to announce there would be no ship reimbursement in the system hosting event while it was going on.

I am not arguing that CCP could not do better in terms of communication, there will always be those people who need to be spoon-fed. You were asking why so few follow, so I gave you 1 big reason.

Right now the attention that live events and the storyline are getting is at the highest I've seen probably since 2010 when Sansha was making their first incursions (before Incursion and let me tell you what two score Nightmares getting their hooks into you is like because you made a mistake of being one of the first on the scene). If there as more known support them them there would likely me more.

That's awesome. I would love to have that or be able to do that or know how to do that. But I digress. As for Twitter and Facebook's apparent importance....media hype! They want us to believe it's a good thing. Honestly, I'm tired of having big business shove me out of the way every time I take a dump so they can analyze my stool to see what I just ate in order to figure out how to continually bilk me out of money all while convincing me, "It's a good idea!".

Given the numbers stated, I'd have to say it's the result of one of two things. 1) The Twitter feed count for the live event is the true number of players in Eve everyone else being an alt! or 2) It's the number of people that were actually able to make it to the live event which, from the complaints, wouldn't be far off ;)

Don't ban me, bro!

As live events go, that one was a little different in that they announced it, but this was mainly around the kickoff for Dust 514 too. Most live events are a complete surprise, like the one in Arnon where a Concord ship had to be nuked.

Once I was just in for moving a ship and there was yellow text in local as one of their actors was in pursuit of Sansha's "Citizen001" .

So they can be a total surprise.

OPs first mistake was assuming the vast majority of EvE account holders actually give a **** about twitter.
OPs second mistake was posting his first mistake in GD.

it's not about attention.

It's about time of this event. When CCP starts it after DT this is the middle of my working day.

So i really don't need any twitters, facebooks and other modern child toys to watch for these events.

Actually, his second mistake, was asuming that a majority of Eve players gave a crap about live events at all. His third was posting the first two mistakes in GD.Blink

Aren't most live events lagged out to hell and cause gate restrictions keeping people out? Seems pointless to try and promote something they can't even manage for. Ofc it's good for marketing reasons I suppose.

I don't think he's trying to deny that there has been more attention put in to live events by CCP. His point is that they favour certain timezones for these events instead of sharing the love a little. Not everyone does shift work you know.

Plus twitter is crap.

Apart from very much agreeing to the first reply, the word was that the system would only hold 1K players meaning you'd never get in so why bother going there or paying attention to anything related to the event.

I've been on Twitter since the beginning, before it was cool. I still use it for my business, but Twitter has very limited practical use. I would argue that Google+ does a better job at what Twitter was initially designed to do, but I digress.

A live events feed for a video game isn't exactly what Twitter is for. I'm surprised there's that many followers. I'd bet that less than half that number actually follow the updates.
