Is anyone else disappointed with the range and/or bias of the CSM candidates available to be voted for. And before anyone says it I daresay I could make a very good job of being on the CSM but my work commitments prevent me from putting myself forward.

There seems to be even more of a bias towards the nul-sec community than last years candidates and a larger proportion either openly or having 'behind the scenes' support for the main nul-sec monopoly. Does anyone else think it would be a good idea to have two sets of six positions available with two seats in each set working to get a fair outcome for the high, low, & nul-sec communities rather than the current situation where one agenda may get pushed in our faces?

I think that this year will be the least representative of the EvE community so far.

The new voting system rewards the block voters even more, so subsequently they have put in more people.

Any spelling, grammatical and punctuation errors are because frankly, I don't care!!

0.0 is the new communism.

Need less space McCarthyism and more voter participation from other areas of the game (the populations of which is at least on paper considerably larger than nullsec combined let alone a nullsec dividing their votes to blocs).

The new voting system doesn't favor 0.0 or not 0.0 it just maximizes the voting power of each individual vote. How representative CSM8 will be of the server population remains to be seen, but it will near-perfectly reflect the will of the voters.

I can hardly be called a nullsec candidate Big smile

I do think there needs to be a bunch of balancing across the sectors, but not at the expense of any of them.

Anyone who wouldn't be disappointed is someone trying to avoid the followup question of "why?".

It really should dissapoint. 35 candidates total, less than half not in a voting bloc, and among that VERY little new blood. To say that reflects poorly on CCP's apparent desire to get more people involved in the CSM process is a massive understatement.

Now how can you say that with CCPs voter education program in full swing? haven't you seen all the splash ads and signs in-game?

I didn't say there weren't ANY unbiased nul-centric candidates available to vote for Steve. In fact my two votes are probably going to come your way. As in real life if you don't place your vote or at least do something to effect change you can't complain when everything turns to ****.

On further investigation there is another candidate promoting work on the industrial side of EVE but alas reading between the lines he is also pushing the 'buff nul-sec' card as well.

According to comment quoted on the 'Jestertrek' blog attributed to the English guy high up in CCP (Unifex?) nul sec may have some bad news coming their way in June so it may not be all sunshine and roses for them in the foreseeable future. Blink

I think the CSM is underpromoted by CCP.

If there was more metagame spin from ccp the whole election and politics would get a lot more attention both from players and as PR material.

Without such attention the democratic process is bound to become blob-like block voting.

The player created content is really good, but it simply is not far reaching enough.

I believe we need election percentages and ccp actively trying to get those numbers up.

Also the CSM should be more directly democratic. So we might get something resembling propositions where we can see what the candidates vote on. Sure some of this comes out in some part from the minutes, but those tend to get a bit windy.

I think CSM and all of its ctivity should get attention of the same quality as the tournaments, especially because it fundamentally matters more.

I agree with Trebor the CSM is too srsbusiness now, no one wants to join it.

With how hard or annoying being on the CSM would be, its makes sense to me how low the candidate count is. Of course we do have good people, but being on the CSM seems to have moved away from politics and such to just who can handle an annoying job for a year.
