If drones did not automatically go after Pirates/rat and each rat had to be manually targeted then mining barges could not survive. Therefore; making it impossible to BOT MINE. Or even AFK mine.

How about random Captcha to prove we are not bots.

This solves AFK mining (which isn't a problem IMHO), but the truth of the matter is modern and even ghetto bots nowadays can not only simulate manual targeting but can also coordinate as a fleet to protect their orcas and such. I've even seen a perticular bot being sales-pitched as able to run C3-4 WHs with 3-4 multiboxed ships while doing all the probing, mining, gas harvesting, delivery and even the eventual PvP by itself.
Hell, I'm pretty sure it'd do a better job at PvP than I do, since the reaction time would be nigh-instantaneous as soon as the enemy hit the grid.

TL;DR
Bots are smarter now. Make tasks harder to automate, not harder to play. AFK mining isn't broken, 23/7 automation is.
