Just several days ago, the world of EVE saw the destruction of the Shiigeru, a Leviathan-Class Titan in the orbit of Caldari Prime, won back by the Caldari from a surgical strike ordained by Tibus Heth. What came afterwards, as the burning wreckage and even the superstructure of the Titan came crashing down onto the surface of Caldari Prime?

Well, let me tell you.

The battle was fierce, dozens of capital ships on either side: Dreadnoughts, Carriers, Supercarriers, and yes, a Leviathan. The battle lasted for over an hour; with railguns and blasters seeking targets to pepper with shells of immense size, and capsuleers offering their aid to whichever side they chose, adding a myriad of lasers, cannons, and other weaponry to the mix. The Shiigeru started to fade however, and was eventually destroyed, a severe blow to the Caldari forces. Gradually, however. The wreckage was pulled down to the surface, and ground forces saw debris coming down around them as they battled west of Arcurio, one of Caldari Prime's biggest cities.

Then something incomprehensibly massive pierced the clouds. Something that struck fear into the forces of both sides.

The superstructure of the Leviathan was coming down right on top of them.

Many kilometers in length, and weighing millions upon millions of kilograms, the core structure of the Titan had become the single biggest ballistic projectile in the history of EVE.

The impact was devastating.

Earthquakes wracked the whole planet, buildings toppled, mountains trembled and cliffs fell. And that was just the beginning.

Geologists, far away from the combat between Gallente and Caldari forces, noticed a spike in volcanic activity on the other side of the planet from the Shiigeru's point of impact. Volcanoes formed, and started to erupt, and as debris from the Titan continued to fall, fault lines were disrupted, and gave rise to the single largest fear all geologists held on Caldari Prime.

A supervolcano, long dormant underneath a valley thousands of miles from the crash site, erupted in the deadliest ecological disaster to strike an Empire's core world.

As dust and ash continued to rise from the supervolcano, billions flocked to the nearest spaceport in an attempt to escape the slow, painful death of the planet they've called home. Captains in those ports were amazed at the sheer amount of people that flocked to the spaceport seeking safe refuge. Hundreds of thousands of frigates, shuttles, and smaller craft, as they were the only ones who could survive the trip through the atmosphere, were loaded to the brim with now refugees from the dying world. The battle in orbit had concluded as a Gallente victory, with ships from both sides in tatters, and unable to take any passengers, forcing the immense armada of tiny ships to fly to other systems in search of help.

The volcano continued to erupt, and in just a matter of days, the entire world was covered by a thick blanket of ash and smoke, and those in orbit saw the temperature begin to drop.

In just a matter of days, the Caldari homeworld was frozen solid, and all life was extinguished from the surface as ice storms struck the surface and devastated the skeletal remains of all Caldari Prime's cities. The world the Caldari had recently reclaimed from the Gallente, at the cost of many, many lives.. was lost.

The Caldari were furious, to say the least.

Blaming the Gallente for the death of their homeworld, tensions rose as hundreds of Caldari fleets began to mass along their border to Gallente space, and the Gallente quickly relocated as many ships as they could. With many of their capital ships barely holding together, and requiring months of dry-dock to repair, the Gallente quickly came to fear the massing Caldari fleets, and what devastation they could bring to their stars, and worlds.

The next steps in these events are believed to be certain, but the one wildcard that can change the outcome of the coming storm are the capsuleers. Able to drive back immense fleets, able to co-ordinate massive operations, control the stars, and even have the gift of immortality, the capsuleers have, and always will be, the greatest unknown in Empirical events.

One thing is certain: New Eden's capsuleers can shape the fates of millions, if not billions, of people. And they aren't afraid to do so. The coming days will be uncertain; times will be difficult, and war may come.

But this is EVE; wealth, politics, power, they can all change hands in a matter of seconds, and the destinies of millions can be altered just as fast.

This is EVE. And I was there.

Shiigeru*

You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life.
