Some T2 modules are actually worse than the equivalent T1 Meta 4 modules. And many T1 meta 4 modules are more expensive than T2 versions.

Having T2 weapons and tank is pretty important if you want to be effective and survivable in anything bigger than a frigate.
Well, i've fitted a Merlin up last night, testing various modules and such, and was debating between Light Neutron Blaster II's which are 1.2m odd each, or a Meta 2-3 equivilant with Caldari Navy, and the DPS difference is nowhere near as big as I would have thought, and the Meta 2-3's guns were around 200-300k each.

Tank wise i've not really experienced many problems either when it comes to using Meta 2-4, achieving 5.6k EHP on my Merlin, and overall cost w the Meta 2/3 guns around 2mill

Heck,, either way i'm having loads of fun with ship fitting! haha

You seem to be going in the right direction, thinking about your ship and how it works. Keep up the good work :)

Also: Do not forget that Meta T1 mods can be overheated for longer than T2 before they melt.

Look up the Thermodynamics skill. Good luck!

I'm also aiming to get into PVP somewhere in the near future but I'd like to do it solo and I'm going to focus on Gallente, my plan is to use a Tristan for it as I really like it. Would the notion of "meta 2/3 is good enough, you'll be fine" also apply for my situation?

I do have loads of income so I can easily spend the money to get better items but if it's not needed it makes it easier to just buy 20 ships, fit them and hope I don't lose them in one single day :P

The new Trissie, while buffed, has some issues for solo PvP - its pretty slow, and it's drone bay is most of it's DPS.

*Slow* means theres lot of stuff you cant catch, and you really dont want them kiting you, dragging your drones with them and blatting them one at a time with small guns.

The drones being your DPS means your 'meta 2/3' is cheaper drones - either tech 1, or the much cheaper laser-based Amarrian T2 light drones (which are pretty slow and dont do much damage).

Try it and see how well it works for you :)
