I am looking for a laptop or notebook, for college work. Galaxy Tab 10.1 is alright, but I need better functionality, especially for Microsoft Office. :s

The key features i'm looking for a laptop are:

  • $600-$800
  • least 11inch
  • 5hours~ of power
  • below 4lbs, so thin and light.
  • 11" preferrly, but bigger is fine.

Hoping you people out there with better experience for laptops/notebooks can guide me for good selection. Currently I am looking at this one. I'm sure there is a better one out there :O

The one you listed seems a bit pricey (just a little under 700 USD) for what it seems to offer.
The 8 GB of RAM is probably nice to have, and the processor is fairly decent... however, since you probably won't be gaming that much on it (integrated graphics is sort of "meh" anyway) but mainly doing document edits and such, 4 GB of RAM and a less powerful CPU would have also been quite enough already.
Screen is pretty small, so it's light, indeed... but keyboard space is pretty crammed on 11" models, so if you're doing school work on it a lot it can get annoying.

You could go with something noticeably cheaper that will most likely still do the job just fine... something like this for instance:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834312242

It costs only about 400$ (a whole lot cheaper than the one you were looking at).
All you really "lose" is what you probably don't really need all that much in the first place (some extra RAM and some mostly unused CPU power), but you're getting instead a 14" screen and a more comfy keyboard as a trade-off for all that, while still managing to remain just a sliver under your imposed 4 pound weight limit.
Everything else is pretty much the same as (or negligibly different from) the specs on the laptop you initially listed (battery life, HDD size, etc).
Personally, for you, I think it has a much better overall "bang for buck" value.

P.S. Plus, if you ever decide to start some games on it briefly, it should actually work slightly better than the one you initially listed for most games (slightly better integrated video chip performance).

Thanks for the link. I actually looked about 50+ notebooks, laptop, and ultrabooks. I know low power consumption is the key, but it bugs me when 90% of them are Intel HD 4000 graphics. :O

Nah, I can assure you that it'll be strictly school related. The link does indeed look better. Attention
