I'm fairly new-ish, and Ive been searching for some good caracal fits. Ive heard various comments about a Caracal only being good for anti-frig role or long range 100km Heavy Missile support with dampening or what have you. Is this true? Also has the Caracal been upgraded? Most the fits I find from older threads show only 2 lowslots. Does the new layout make it more of a viable HAM cruiser?

Sorry for all the question. Could I get a fit now that the ship has been updated (whenever it was updated?) Im struggling to find another other Caracal fits that are recent.

An anti-frig fit and a HAM (or just HM) fit would be appreciated so I can decide which role I can best work in.

Thanks in advance

(Im assuming its just ASM's, an MWD, some BCU II's and whatever else fits for extenders etc?)

first things first: you do not need to apologize for having questions. that is what this forum is for.

edit: here is a basic HAM brawler fit. it will deal ok with with anything bigger than a destroyer, as long as it is webbed. i chose resistance rigs over shield extenders to keep it cheap. if you have an extra 7 million feel free to use extenders instead for an extra 3k EHP:

[Caracal, ham pvp]

Ballistic Control System II
Ballistic Control System II
Damage Control II
Power Diagnostic System II

Experimental 10MN Microwarpdrive I
Adaptive Invulnerability Field II
X5 Prototype Engine Enervator
J5b Phased Prototype Warp Scrambler I
Large F-S9 Regolith Shield Induction

Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Mjolnir Heavy Assault Missile
Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Mjolnir Heavy Assault Missile
Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Mjolnir Heavy Assault Missile
Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Mjolnir Heavy Assault Missile
Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Mjolnir Heavy Assault Missile

Medium Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer I
Medium Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer I
Medium Anti-Thermal Screen Reinforcer I

Warrior II x2

rough stats for this fit:
22 000 000 ISK
350dps (more with rage missiles)
21000 EHP
45km max range
1800m/s
7.3s align time

I should buy an Ishtar.

It was like that before the recent T1 cruiser buff, yes.

The buff people often overlook is that Caracal got a lot more speed and mobility compared to their prebuff variants, thesedays they align almost as fast as Stabbers do and are not easy to catch on gates unless you have a SeBo. Also, the MWDing speed of 1800m/s is not up to Stabber's 2400m/s something to throw away.

Given that and the HAM ranges of 22-26.5kms depending on ammo loaded (Javelins' dps is really subpar), I'd advise taking the fit Daniel posted (which is a solid fit, albeit he made a small lapsus there, the align time should be 5.1s, not 7.3s, I guess he forgot to turn the MWD off), but substituting the scrambler with a long range point. This will offer you some more tactical flexibility and kiting options to be used against blasterboats and spreading points fast when jumping into/onto a gang, whilst still keeping a web as a tool for range control and/or closerange shenanigans.

Edit: There is also a question of what kind of a context and fleet size are you planning on using it.

I prefer a long point to compliment the range of HAMs. This lets you drop the web for a stronger tank if you expect to fight other cruisers that will probably be slower.

I can see it working well either way. Depends what you are up against I suppose. A web would be better against something fast like a Stabber while the extra EHP might be more useful against something slower like a Maller.
