Something I thought of the other day, was about the odd traditions that might have arisen within the Imperial Navy, given that the Amarr Navy has been in space for about two thousand years.

What I came up with, was this:

When a ship in the Imperial Navy is decommissioned, it is a tradition for the crystals used in the ships main battery of guns, to be made into jewellery, given to the female officers and crew, and the wives of the male officers and crew. Gold from the hull plating is also used. The jewellery is usually very plain, but the significance of each piece to its owner is very great.

Thus, if you meet someone that served in the Amarr Navy, you may notice them wearing a rather plain looking ring, or other item of jewellery. For richer individuals, this ring would be conspicuous by it's plainness compared to other jewellery.


What other traditions do people think there might be ?

I imagine all Navy sheeps to have their names (The INS Deathbringer, the INS Forfeit, whatever), but on the inside and unofficially all of them would be consecrated to a patron saint to watch over it. And the big ships would even feature small shrines inside to honor that saint.

I would think that, depending on the battle history of the vessel, it would either become training vessels for upcoming command crews - a fair whack safer than flinging them into an active ship - or a museum ship. Lesser notable vessels, would probably be broken up either for spare parts for other ships in the class, or to be recycled into smaller vessels of the Empire.


the whole jewelery idea would work, with each piece bearing a name of the ship it came from - momento reasons, plus if the jewelery gets cold in the future, it can also present a historical record - What about the male crews? Do they leave with nothing :P

Hmm, signet rings are important in Amarrian culture, so it's possible male crewmembers may get such a ring made, though.. crystals aren't all that common for signet rings, are they ?
