Absolutely bang on bro.

Games give us the ability to live a different persona for a short time. But this persona is a window to our real one always. If you play a long running game and act like a douche because you can, chances are you would do that in real life if the bullies from school wouldn't wedgie you half way up your back for it.

I got banned from WoW forums for a post that by EVE standards was very helpful and informative.

Does that make me evil or good?

What the hell, that made me actually laugh....

I had a similar experience on the Skyrim forums, where I received a temp ban for "causing arguments". I wish the signs for when one should leave a place were always this clear.

Loss is meaningful. Therefore is the loss of meaning likewise meaningful. It is the source of all trolling.

Funny, In WoW I was an absolute azhole and I got even banned for doing abusive stuff against other players. In EVE where CCP is educating you in being a total scumbag... I just can't do anything bad, I actually help people and I feel very bad if I scam someone. So in my case, as hilarious it sounds, EVE made me a good person. Maybe I need some medical help or get back to WoW :S

You already were evil.

EvE just brought it out. Strong the dark side is, quicker, more seductive.

When you have no restrictions, it's amazing what some people can do.

Real power is not to do.
Real power is knowing what you can do and still deciding not to do it.

EVE reminded me about cultural differences. It is a big planet and we are not all the same. We do not necessarily share the same set of values. You have to be aware of this and you are not disappointed.

On the internet, you can be whatever you want to be. It is amazing that so many people chose to be stupid.

Sounds like a little freedom was the therapy you needed.

What virtue is there in forced goodness?

Indeed. Only through freedom of choice can we embrace that which is true - Be it good or evil.

Ive been playing this game for about 6 years now and it hasnt affected my morals one bit.

Maybe you were *evil* all along, or maybe only the weak fall to the dark lures of the game.

All in all, Heathen pirate scum, Amarr Victor etc..etc..etc...

Weirdly enough I thought I would be evil scum in this game when I started.

However, I'm pretty 'good' from a D&D perspective...well maybe not Good per se but Neutral with good tendnecies.

Not sure why. I think it's because it is 'cool' and 'popular' to be 'evil' in this game. That turns me off. I like to take the path lesser traveled.

Or Kuro has a point :D

What a load of rubbish. Smile

OP, there is absolutely nothing wrong with playing a bad guy in a game if you enjoy it and are comfortable with it. It is not, and has never been, and measure of your moral fortitude.

RPG's by design allow a person to portray character traits other than their norm, if they wish. It's rather one of the main points of the game.

Anyone who feels that a players in game actions can only reflect who they "really" are is having serious difficulty separating reality and fiction.

Wow. Sorry, but you couldn't possibly be more wrong here. It's a game. I play to win using the ruleset at hand. AWOXing, scamming, ganking are all legitimate tactics to reach my goals, and my use of those "underhanded" tactics tells you absolutely nothing about me in RL. To imply otherwise clearly demonstrates your own inability to separate reality from fiction.

Oh gee, Stephen King is always writing about murderers and psychotic people. He MUST be a psychotic murderer amirite?

Honestly, this type of self-righteous drivel is baffling to me. It's just a video game "bro", there is no necessary correlation between how people play and how they behave in RL. You can toss out whatever ad hominem arguments you want to, it doesnt change the fact that most people don't take their space pixels as seriously as you obviously do.

You must be a real joy to play Monopoly with though. "How dare you build that hotel on Boardwalk?!?! Clearly you are a heartless capitalist monster bent on the eradication of the poor and the weak!"

Not so.

We are whatever we practice being. When we practice 'kind and unselfish,' it becomes a habit, just like any other.
