Hi,

Rather then typing a large novel as to why you should try this video game, I'll simply ask you to watch these two videos.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=83NkPguw9Jg
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RcbQk5VXKNE

then I'll tell you that... arma 3 alpha is 33$, when beta arrives it will cost more, when it will be released it will cost even more... however if you get it now you can report bugs and help the community mod as well. the point is if you get it now, you'll also receive beta and release the day they are released.

ArmA is the continuation of an old game called Operation Flashpoint, if you remember or liked that game, we'll just so you know we've been through arma 1, 2 and now we're at 3.

the size of the main map is 270 square km.
the alpha map is 20 square km.

the biggest server online has a hold so far of 80 players (can have more just need better hardware)

feel free to discuss it here.

I have an impossible time playing realistic first person shooters. Zombies is the limit for realism, for me.

too many memories. it's too realistic

that said, it looks great. all the excitement, none of the boring bits, excellent alternative to the real thing.

But hurry up and wait is a military tradition!

Its 90% of my call up time.

Get called up
Report for duty
Given boring reserve officer duty... usually teaching new recruits and spend my time joking in the officers mess.

10% get called up and spend a few days with my division sitting in a tank wait and getting to look at nothing except rolling scrubby hills and occasionally hear explosions coming from next door.

So yeah. 100% hurry up and wait for me. Sad

But ive become a really good chess player now.

Yep. Well im reserve now. Im actually in communications and signals but i am seconded to an armoured unit on reserve due to my language skills.

Its kind of ironic, i dont pvp in eve but im a glorified FC when it comes to calling targets.

hahahah yep

I was promoted to Sergeant during my time in the Air Force, but I still had to attend the Army NCO academy (according to my 1SG, who was just keeping everyone gainfully employed)...

so i'm at the NCO Academy at Ft Hood, and the Commandant of the NCO Academy took the school for a run one day, and me being me, I volunteered to run with the guide on -anway-

toward the end of the 3 mile run, the jodie became
"T is for ******,
A is for ******,
N is for ******,
K is for ******,
E is for ******,
R is for ******... Tankers are retards"

the commandant heard that, and turned us around for another three miles

the commandant was a tanker lol

I have been playing this series since the beginning aswell.

As for Arma 3, I'm quite impressed so far, the new diving feature is interesting, I think the last time I saw something like that was some old Delta Force game.

I was hoping that the mini sub would be in this version but its not, guess we will have to wait.

Hi,

I never played any of the Operation Flashpoint or ArmA series (except ArmA 2 demo).

How big would you rate the chances that I could like the game if I say:
- I disliked Battlefield 2 for putting to much "Player 1 killed Player 2 with a teaspoon" floaters and chatboxes all over the screen.
- I really hated BF2 for the "You're leaving the Battlefield, return or die" map restrictions.
- I never touched a CoD game. Are they fun ?
- I loved the **** out of Novalogic's Joint Operations game(s).

Do I need a Flight Stick to fly a chopper in ArmA ?
Would a Gamepad do ?

I secretely hope that Novalogic somehow learn how to code AI and come out with an amazing Angel Falls. But I think that Novalogic may be dead ... not dying, dead ! Ugh

Peace,

Jill.

Above poster might like this game. Maybe plead with someone for an alpha lite code gift from steam [every alpha player gets 3 free ones from the 14 of this month]. Alpha is a pretty good deal although you might be a person who would prefer the finished deal.

Arma 3 so far for me as an alpha is pretty good. You can use quite a few arma 2 mods in it but a lot won't work perfectly, though flying a f18 and driving a mrap round Stratis are keeping me going so far. Multiplayer is a hackers dream what with there being no anti-cheat measures in place atm.

there is a arma 2 free mode with lower graphics and only works in multiplayer but not many people are playing it since it doesn't allow mods so it's practically a ****** demo. other than that i agree with the above poster you should find someone with the alpha to pass you a "alpha lite" which works till june.

arma aims for photo realism in its graphics, and aims for realism in its gameplay... so in noob speak it means that it doesn't feel like an arcade game like battlefield nor call of duty. you also can't escape the map since its 270 square km, alpha map is 20... if you do plan to try to escape the map, what exactly do you think will happen? do you think the game will extend the map for you? i don't understand this argument. what you see in the background is part of the map, there's no invisible wall telling you that you can't travel to a place you see from distance. the maps are surrounded by water... so if you see water, you're approaching the end.

i never played joint operations... but i'm pretty sure you'd like this game if you want a simulation/realistic approach to military gaming, the same engine is used within actual military.

this game shines best when you have a clan/team/friends with voice chat... get a few squads together, play co-op or online and play like you really are in the military. no you don't need a gamepad or joystick for choppers, keyboard works fine but requires time.
