I found this in my standings sheet:

"The killer of your ship was of an unknown faction"

Please, explain.

It's been explained several times already, but this is the Mercenaries faction appearing on your standings sheet.

They're not supposed to be visible, or not supposed to be a faction, but it's been bug reported and will be fixed Soon™.

That is incorrect. It's Rogue Drones.

If you right click the 'Unknown' Faction and select 'Show Transactions' it will list all entries. Right click each transaction listed and select 'Details' to view specific information.

In my character sheet / 'Standings' section / 'Disliked By' tab / the 'Unknown' Faction is listed at -1.20 with Diplomacy lv 5. 'Show Transactions' has 4 entries listed at -12.0% each for 'Combat - Ship Kill'. Right click for 'Details' states :

It looks like Rogue Drones are now being listed as a Faction, probably due to being 'Sentient'. Makes sense due to having Bounty placed on them by DED, right?

Anyway, it would have been nice to see that info in a Dev Blog.

According to various 'Details' posted in another thread, it seems more than likely this is indeed a bug, which is what Zaknussem first originally stated..

Now it appears that various different entries (Angel, Blood Raider, Merc, Rogue Drone, etc.) are randomly being dumped into a generic classification as 'Unknown' Faction. In the past most of those entries would have been credited to it's own specific Faction. That is definitely a bug, especially when the details clearly state the name of the destroyed structure or NPC.
