Is there a preferred Carrier these days?

Get an Archon. It is better for the current flavor of carrier PVP and it does the logistics piece just as well as any other carrier.

CCP should add more NPC 0.0 space to open it up and liven things up: the Stepping Stones project.

The archon is miles better than other carriers, because other carriers fail in some way in their role.

Chimera - STILL not enough cpu to fit modules without spending lots of money on meta 2 capital modules and faction modules.

Nidhog - Weak tank, can't use the same type of tank its RRing. No Armor tank Nid with Armor RR or Shield tank with Shield RR - fail.

Thanatos - A damage bonus on a carrier is same as a drone damage bonus on a logistic ship, its a weak bonus.

Archon - can fit for its role very well, high cap buffer, armor resist and cap bonus makes it the to go carrier for many things.

Sp the thanatos's only drawback is it's bonus correct?

Depends on the entity you are in. I have not been keeping a keen eye on carriers of late but I think for slowcats Chimera is considered one of the best options. It's shield based so can get pretty good resists while still have enough room in lows for drone damage mods and in remote repping shield transfers kick in at the start of the cyckle while armor reps tick at the end making your carrier harder to "alpha". Not that carriers would be in danger of being alphad any time soon unless someone brings two full fleets of alpha malestroms or such, which would not be that bright idea against slowcats as these can alpha BS's faster than BS's can alpha them down to the level where the alpha is no longer enough to break a carrier in one blast.

Overall tho as general prupose carriers Chimeras are still not as popular as Archons I think, but not entirely sure.

Best would be ofc being able to fly them both and have them both :)

Thantanos is more of a pve carrier and Nidd is .. not-so-popluar.

Here, sanity... niiiice sanity, come to daddy... okay, that's a good sanity... THWONK! GOT the bastard.

I have a question about the Thanatos: Does the fighter bonus apply to assigned fighters? Im curios because most say no but this guide tells it does.

Depending on your purpose, the preference order is usually:

Archon/Chimera > Nidhoggur > Thanatos

You should ask your corporation/alliance which carrier they prefer members to train for. It will almost always be the Archon, unless you are in the N3 coalition, which uses Chimeras instead. The Chimera is gimped on CPU, requiring faction modules for a proper triage fit; the Nidhoggur has to coss-tank for triage, and has substantially weaker tank than either the Chimera or the Archon.

The Thanatos has two drawbacks. (1) It has a weak local tank, and so is not as suitable for capital fleets. (2) Its bonus to fighter damage has been obsoleted by drone damage augmentors, which allow any carrier to out-dps a fighter Thanatos using sentries. The Thanatos's fighter damage bonus is only relevant if you are assigning fighters to alts or fleet members from the edge of the POS shield.

I take this as a yes.

I think i will go for the thanatos, because it can rep pos and i get a bonus when i assign fighters in pve for my main, i dont think i will rat in the carrier itself.

As I recall from flying one it didn't. Has something changed in the past 5 years?

The very sun of heaven seemed distorted when viewed through the polarising miasma welling out from this sea-soaked perversion, and twisted menace and suspense lurked leeringly in those crazily elusive angles of carven rock where a second glance shewed concavity after the first shewed convexity.

I can confirm that the Nidhoggur is the sexiest of the carriers.

On a related note the hel is in the running for sexiest super carrier.

when you see the new Capital V3 you will fall in love with the Chimera, boy did they do a good job, and they have ruined the Nidhoggurs rusty metal skin

Armour fleets - Archon
Shield fleets - Chimera

Sitting at a pos waiting for it to be attacked so you can get some use out of your carrier - Nidhoggur

Your about as much use as a condom dispenser in the Vatican.

The bonus does not apply to assigned fighters.

Well then this bonus is realy useless...
is this an offgrid issue or doesnt count an drone damage mod also if i assist sentries for example.

Carriers other than an archon may as well not exist for any practical PVP uses.
Chimeras have their uses too i suppose but shields are so girly.

This is correct - the Thanatos's damage bonus to Fighters is useless. It only applies to your own fighters when you are using them yourself. It does not apply to your drones. Additionally, drone damage augmentors and omnidirectional tracking cpu's do not apply to fighters.

You are better off using sentry drones, which means the Archon is better (additional low slot).

CCP should add more NPC 0.0 space to open it up and liven things up: the Stepping Stones project.

I'm also curious if the resistance change will have an impact on archon usage. I was going to train this toon as an Amarr pilot specifically for cap use, but also because Amarr sub-caps seem to be well-rounded in general for fleet ops.

With battleship rebalance and possible resistance changes, which race would you go with now if you could only fly 1?

So a drone damage bonus on top of the fighter dmg bonus would make a lot of sense for the Thanatos imho. Mini Nyx, nice damage but less staying power in comparison. Sounds like Gallente to me.
