It's more common than you think. It scans for applications that run in the background in search for suspicious ones while you play the game.

World of Warcraft does the same and so does VAC.

The very sun of heaven seemed distorted when viewed through the polarising miasma welling out from this sea-soaked perversion, and twisted menace and suspense lurked leeringly in those crazily elusive angles of carven rock where a second glance shewed concavity after the first shewed convexity.

Awhile ago just after CCP Sreegs started at CCP he said that he would not do that. He said he was concerned with the security of the client. Meaning the client gets scanned to insure its not being modified in any way.

Awesome work mate! Even though it's your job, I'd like to thank you for the effort put into this. Every single botter down counts.

I know it works best with the surprise effect, but is there any way to put in your behaviour analysis tool into the guys spamming Jita local every 5 secs? Shouldn't be too hard to find those patterns! :)

Anyway, thanks again.

This sounds eerily like a statement you'd get from military officials.

Well frankly what he's doing is kind of like an arms race, when you really think about it.

Probably, but I wasn't sure how to incorporate that into my post without completely ruining the joke.

Indeed. Pretty much exactly like what happens in the anti-virus industry as well.

Yep. Can't wait until they apply this principle to game mechanics themselves.

For everyone mentioning the Jita spam bots, I'd recommend putting pressure on the candidates running for CSM8. Chribba's been trying but can't do this alone. They are not too hard to spot using Chribba's web site, Eve Live. There was a discussion on Twitter and sounds like this falls more in the realm of Customer Service than Security. But I don't think anyone really cares who does the work as long as someone starts to clean up the mess.

It really sounds like this needs to be addressed by CSM and then they can use their famous direct line Skype channel to bug the devs until they get tired of listening. Now we just need to vote for people who will carry through with this.
