My argument is, that abandoning a storyline mission isn't a viable option. I understand that I chose a decision, and my decisions have consequences.

But it doesn't make any sense to decline a storyline mission ever, if the penalty is so huge!

Can anyone tell me a situation when it is beneficial for you to decline an already accepted storyline mission, with such a large penalty?

Hence why you should have used the ship that would be able to run it.

Level 3 missions usually means a cruiser or BC. A dessie is possible though hard with good skills, fit and knowledge. As a noob you likely miss one or multiple of those.

Let's get one thing straight. You accepted the mission. You signed a contract. You took a responsibility. Only then you decided to not go through with it.

If you simply declined the mission in the first place, rather than making a commitment but then failing and/or refusing to go through with it, there wouldn't be any problem. The penalty was simply proportionate to the stakes involved/potential reward.

If you can't handle it, don't accept it. If you are unsure whether you can, research it first.

Do I really have to talk to you like a child and give you a lesson in responsibility? Because that is basically what you are asking for here.

My argument is that the punishment wasn't proportional.

You say it was. We disagree.

Could you please explain to me why it was proportionate, with in game aguments, or game designer arguments.
No real life comparisons please, they don't make any sense anyway.

I am really curious, and would love to hear (and tear apart) your arguments.

Edit:
I neve thought of all people you would be the one who comes and argues here. Shocked

Wait till I get home and can type on the PC...then you will see my full point (not going tk type a wall of text with my cell on my work).

But be prepared, i'm going to be very blunt to you.

How do you figure you can decline something you have already accepted?????

Except it was. Mission rewards depend on their expected difficulty and penalties are simply proportionate to rewards.

By doing only a few level 1 missions, you can already see that rewards can vary greatly based on their difficulty and/or time to completion. At this point, assuming two missions will have the same reward/penalty without factoring their difficulty into account is flawed.

EVE has only 5 difficulty levels for missions. Difference between level 1 and 3 is obviously huge. Assuming that a random level 3 mission will have the same reward/penalty as a random level 1 mission is considerably more flawed.

Storyline missions specifically warn you that the mission is important and will have considerable impact on standings. Assuming that a level 3 storyline mission will have the same reward/penalty as a random regular level 1 mission is unbelievably flawed and makes no sense whatsoever.

Wether I am capable of doing a lvl 3 sec mission in a destroyer or not.

Using a destroyer for a level 3 sec mission is practically never a good idea.

What kind of ship you need for what level of mission is a very basic question, asked and answered all the time in the in-game help channels, on the forums, and a multitude of guides and articles. I have answered it myself more times that I can count.

General guidelines can be found in more than one EVE Uni wiki or EVElopedia articles. Examples:
http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Missions#Levels_of_Missions
http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Missions_guide#General_Combat_Mission_Hints

As pointed out by others, EVE-Survival can be used for more specific information about specific missions. I will also state again that, not surprisingly, there is a correlation between mission reward and difficulty, so one could easily estimate the relative difficulty based on the reward offered.

So you decided to make a troll post of your own to provoke a troll response from someone else... In a Rookie Help section of the forums... Good job. Way to contribute to the community.

Me deciding to reply should serve as a good indication of how wrong you are here.
