Planetary Retail Outlet Structures (PROS)

I have an offering for the ideas forum, which I've named Planetary Retail Outlet Structures (PROS).

I've read some ideas on here about modules for trade - out of POS's and out of actual ships. Maybe the following idea also came but I missed it.

I think having a planetary orbital structure that sells items in the market, or are in a special searchable PI market (accessible over distance according to your skillz), is a good idea.

This would make the PI people in direct competition with each other in terms of pricing, should they choose to sell out of that outlet.

The idea of going around as a trader, buying out of the actual planets to sell in stations, in better markets, would be great for all involved. PI could be done without having to go to the planet to transport the goods, traders could get better prices, and POS owners could buy fuel in system.

There could be an entire new job available for players, as retail outlet owners. Another possible job would be real estate agents, if positioned retail outlets were sellable...

There would be good reason to open storefronts in highsec for traffic, or low or null for prices.

Pirates would have a new place to camp, maybe even with a command centre of their own on a planet and they could open up a retail outlet for the express purpose of attracting poorly defended traders.

I offer this idea and the benefits of PROS as outlined here; however, there are surely implications of which I am not fully aware.

I would appreciate any feedback from fellow capsuleers and especially from any representatives of CCP.

Thank you, I love you,

While I am supportive of that set of ideas, what I have proposed is quite different in scope. I believe that the idea of retail outlets could be done with a slight repurposing of the customs office. They could be used to sell items out of a planet or a POS, and would have broad implications at a very low cost in terms of programming time.

The set of ideas that you've linked to are expansive, in my mind making a mini game within the game itself. In terms of development, I think it would be an entire expansion focused on PI. I would be okay with that, should it happen. I just don't see it as likely to happen.

I understand that you may feel that the idea of retail outlets is covered within the "Planetary Interaction 2.1" set of ideas, and I agree that it is, in a general sense.

The idea of retail outlets should be considered on it's own, in my opinion.

+1

At least start by making the Planetary Interaction, Feature, offer items for sale that the relative planet would be making..

ship based retail stores ?? hehe. Big smile

i can immagine how that is gonna go down in history as the shortest business adventure ever....

retailer rolls into jita, with a big-ass hauler, proclaiming to sell wares worth X billions of isk,
followed by the sound of a thousand frigates locking on and firing all lazors...

there is nothing quite as tempting as a hauler filled to the brim with faction loot..
its easier to take down a ship, then a pos u know. Roll

If (big if) I'm reading the OP right, the idea is to break out more places where the useless trade crap is sold/accepted.

For example, right now the items like "Water", "Livestock", "Antibiotics", etc are only bought/sold via station. What this adds is the ability for us to buy and sell these items directly to the planets that need them. That is, instead of going 10 jumps to Dodixie to sell that stack of livestock we've been getting from missions (killing the stations, whatever), we can dump them off at one of the planets in our home system (or a jump away) because the planet needs it.

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

the only issue i got with this whole scenario, is that it would take an immense ammount of programming to make it work by implementing a POS specific trade feature, and that costs CCP a lot of money..

on the otherhand, a POS based tradehub does open for quite a few business oppurtunities.

i would immagine the trade hub on a POS to be like a restricted version of the one you today will find in NPC stations, only with the restriction that you can ONLY sell and buy the items listed on the trade window, and not put up your own items for sale.
that would have to be done by the POS administrator. (managing prices, and decide on what items to sell / buy.)

it IS a good idea, but its a long way ahead.
