"We're playing it internally at CCP. It's actually a problem that some of our employees are losing themselves already in the World of Darkness as we go through the playtests. "Cool

Is this why devbogs are thin lately? Is this the reason F&I forum are now nearly empathy of sticky threads where once they well almost full first page of blue?Twisted Get back to work you lazy bums!

edit: Thread title now fixed. Although the name "World Darkens" sounds kinda interesting for a game.

Maybe free to play is permadeath and pay to play is resurrection. That would be novel.

I'm going to get out my old crystal ball and try and predict the first nerf to the (unreleased) game.

I'm seeing something about permadeath....

De'Veldrin's Corollary (to Malcanis' Law): Any idea that seeks to limit the ability of a large nullsec bloc to do something in the name of allowing more small groups into sov null will inevitably make it that much harder for small groups to enter sov null.

Since it's a power the prince has, I'm guessing they can declare a blood hunt and it leads to permadeath. It propably can't be just called on anybody and the victim actually needs to break some of the rules before he becomes a valid target.

Honestly looking forward to WoD to be released someday, anyone know if they still wanna use carbon? its a pretty engine aside from bodies being somewhat sclpted and immobile (at least in eve release, and yes i mean boobies, chest when breathing in particular), and if its stillg oing to try and have all the stuff they originally talked about having in it.

either way, i hope they keep it M/AO rated, vampire Teen rated games (at least in the US) always turn ot Dracula levels of cartoony/comedic, instead of Hellsing levels of blood-thirsty super-monsters with no regard for the pathetic lesser species infesting their world.

Actually while they might have thought up the concept of it first, they aren't the first to introduce this to a game.

Wizardry Online is an MMO where permadeath also exists. While rather 'diluted', when you die, you become a ghost, and you have to get to the respawn point on the way, you can encounter nasty ghost thingies that will rip away some of your essence if they catch you ( and send you back to your corpse in the process so you have to try again ).
Every time this happens, your chance of successfully ressurecting goes down by 10%. You can sacrifice some of your stuff to increase this chance again, but if it fails, you're dead, forever with that toon.

Does railgun ammunition come in Hollow Point?

Wut? Permadeath has been around since the dawn of man.

Day-Z carries permadeath right now and the set up isn't as bad as one thinks. Sure, you lose your gear, zombie kill count, and are forced to start on the beach again, but luckily you have the ability to store things in tents that can be scattered all over the map, or steal things from player tents if you find them. You can be re-equipped within 5 minutes.
the only drawback, like I said, is that you have to start on the beach. Naturally this means you will find skill-less los....campers who like to look for easy targets around the 2 major towns, but you can easily bypass those and get back into the game soon enough.

Relatively few will have this power, though as I understand things, they can delegate the actual kill. My guess is, based on all I've seen, is that anyone who goes overboard with this will likely be assasinated quickly. Of course, any boss-level character will be assassinated quickly, as I see things....

Maybe for devs with powers to instantly generate characters with max-level everything. We'll see what the community thinks.

I heard somewhere CCP dumped carbon engine for WoD in favour of some other engine, probably because of carbon performance issues with multiple characters on today's machines.

Also WoD is based on Old WoD so I very much doubt it will have anything in common with Twilight type of literature, or be dumb down for teen consumption. WoD is much more grimdark. In stile and feel I expect something much closer to Vampire: The Masquerade- Bloodlines, but with very few scripted quests and more of a sandbox game stile.

To digress a bit IMHO sandbox stile is future of MMORPGs, because theme park games like WoW are much more expensive to produce and “scripted content” has much less replay value then “payer generated content”. Also theme park games have more problems retying players over the long run. Example of next generation of MMORPG is Pathfinder Online who is very much modelled on EVE online in that it will focus on player generated content and other EVE like mechanics. I would say EVE is ahead of it's time when it comes to running commercially viable MMORPG.
