A Curious thing happened to me whilst Mining in 0.5 space

Hi all,
Long time player, fairly new to posting:

I thought I'd share this with the forum as it struck me as odd and I was wondering if this is now the common practise.

So 2 nights ago I was happily mining some Gold Omber in a 0.5 sec space when two ships flew in, destroyed my vesel without any warning or provication. One of then emailed me that I'd voilated a mining presavatory rule and that unless I pay 100 million they would issue a bounty on me. At first I didn't reply other than to voice my annoyance at both of them attacking an unarmed ship and that's its hardly a fair fight. I may have used one or two adult words in my chat to them...

However 2 minutes later one of them then posted a 100,000 isk bounty on me for this mining voilation of preserved ore and made me an enemy (little red tag on their ID's)

Is this legal? its certainly not fair as I was bothing no one, just doing some mining as I'd not seen Gold Omber (the asteroid belts where I mine are often depleted by the time I get online (around 9pm GMT) .

So other than just rotten luck in a 0.5 sector space, is this now the practise, that one can attack at whim and blow up ships and issue what appears to be a completely unrealistic email that I must pay a financial penalty otherwise they would issue a bounty?

Suffice to say I returned to that asteroid belt 10 minutes later armed to the hilt but they'd left the space. I also lost my augments in the attack, which is more annoying than the 200 million mining ship full of cargo

I thought there was an intent to do compat (or something like that) option now, which I didn't get any forewarning.

Happy to hear the forums comments

Here's the email I received:

Good evening capsuleer,

Allow me to introduce myself: I am the Butte Liaison of Fortuna Butte Preservation Society. I understand you recently received a citation for causing environmental damage to an endangered asteroid belt. From what I see in the report, it seems the citations were ignored and our Butte Preservation Specialists interviened and I am sorry to see that your ship was partially damaged in teh altercation. I regret to inform you that the wreckage of your ship left in the Butte Preserved Asteroid Garden has also incurred another citation.

To avoid further visits from our Butte Preservation Specialists, please deposit 150,000,000.00 ISK to our CEO, Talinth Fortuna. Failure to do so in a timely manner will result in a late fee added per week of 150,000 ISK.

It also pains me to inform you that due to the litering of your wreck in our perserved Asteroid Garden, any offers to purchase an Balle mining pass is no longer valid.

If you wish to Reimburse your ship under our reimbursement program. Please send a complaint and a description of what happened to BoodaBooda.

Have a good day/evening.

Nothing special. EVE has all sorts of players. You have encountered the bottom feeders.

Loss is meaningful. Therefore is the loss of meaning likewise meaningful. It is the source of all trolling.

Why haven't you informed yourself about the game *before* you started playing it ?
You can't opt out of ship combat (unless you stay docked) and fair fights are bullshit.

A fair fight is pretty much the most unrealistic thing that can happen,
in both EvE and the real world, unless it's sports.

Congratulations, you have made yourself a target... *

Rightfully so. :)

No it is not!
As the new CONCORD agent responsible for the security of peacefull mining ventures you should come visit me in my office in NOL to discuss further options to put a stop on those shamefull attacks on you and bringing those thugs to justice.

Don't get me wrong, I understand its a dog eat dog universe, but it takes a pretty shallow person to attack a mining vessel with little shields and no offensive/defensive weapons. actually other than my destroyed vessel and my loss of augments, I see no point in attacking as their security standing would go down and they themselves would be a target.

It wasn't the attack I was commenting on, but the way in which I was emailed a Voilation email, if such rules existed, surely one would be informed after one jumps to that sector, OR leaves a starbase.

I thought about doing that, however, surely one of his friends would trash his ship, pocket the cash and share it with him... No ?

It's a sandbox game. People can do whatever they want. You have to be trying really hard to get yourself killed in high sec without a wardec though.

Nope. It used to be like that, but they fixed it. Now you get 20% of the value of the destroyed ship or the amount of the bounty, whichever is lower.

If I want to play the game mining and doing simple missions, that's my choice, it doesn't detract from how you play it...

Let us investigate.

Your ship

Problem here is you fitted no tank at all and a full rack of t2 strips, t2 prop mod and a pair of cargo expanders which further reduce your tank. End result, you were profitable to kill just with one of those destroyers.

Given that they also podded you I would also say you were AFK at the time.

My advice is fit a tank next time and deploy a flight of ECM drones while mining and dont wander off if you want to keep those nice implants.

To be fair you do show a profound ignorance of basic game mechanics.

Can't tell if Trolling or really not reading patch notes.....

This is standard for eve, also I'd suggest reading up on Concord responses in Hi Sec and the new bounty mechanics.

Bullshit.

Reflect !

You got your ass kicked because of your own fault. You know it's a dog-eat-dog universe,
but sit around in a belt with no tank whatsoever. Don't blame others for your mistakes.

If i see you autopiloting in a shuttle in highsec, i'd blow your head off too.
That's the shuttle AND the pod, in one go.

Why ?

Because you're autopiloting in a shuttle, with a chance of having hundreds of millions of isk in your head.
Anybody who does that *deserves* to get killed, because highsec isn't safe enough to do so.

Same for miners who sit around in untanked ships. They are asking for it.
And that these gankers roleplay what they do ... well ... it's a MMO R P G, right ?

Suck it up, play the game. The worst thing you could do, btw, is making a thread about it,
because that only attracts even more gankers.

TL;DR:
The issue is with you, not them.
Talking bad about them for playing the game in a way it's ment to be played just underlines this even more.

Edit:

And after reading the responses that came up while i was writing this ...

You're quite the good troll.
Nice work. ^_^
