D-Scan change suggestions

it's both overpowered and primitive. my suggestions:

make range inversely proportionate to the degree of angle. so 360 degree scan has very limited range but 5 degree scan can be much longer than the current max. so no need for range slider after all and entered values still limits range for special applications.

make it cycle.

audible ping on contact.

forums.  serious business.

I think D-scan range should be expanded.

are you saying you hear a ping when you get hit with a D-scan?

i think that'd be a little annoying

as for cycling...?... are you saying you want to be able to click it and have it auto D-scan FOR YOU?? Roll

oh brother

I think it's fine as is.. set your range, set your angle, scan at your own discretion -discreetly with no ping

i wonder what your intent with these changes are. could you elaborate please?
otherwise one might think you a carebear of some sorts

well, one might assume that I was aiming for realism, such as the scan strength of a massively diffuse beam being very limited in range versus a tight little cone reaching right across the system.

I don't know if you consider it carebeary to have every module in your slots cycle. because they do.

the sound whoring is just an idea CCP might like as they seem to like adding things that go ping.

huh?

how do cycling guns indicate a carebear? I don't get your insinuation, but you obviously got mine because you felt the need to defend cycling the D-scan.

RE: current D-scan
Is it perfect? no.. but should it be made into what you propose? no... why? a ping off a hull is tantamount to "SPIDERSENSE"" in space, and lazy scan is still lazy even if 'lazy' is not a bad word in my book. Some things should be required to be done manually and made somewhat inadequate for the sake of a built in challenge.

AUTO-D-Scan (now with real PING) is a nice feature if you're a Hull salesman, but come on now sir- where is the fun in that?

Tentatively speaking, this idea might have some merit.

If you keep the current range for the 360° setting, and simply boost the range for smaller and smaller angles, then that would make sense.

Pitchfork Militia, part of Catastrophic Uprising, is recruiting. 0.0 SOV, emphasis on PvP, NBSI

yeaaahhh....but no

because it only tells you the same thing anyway so no, why would the range be needed to be better if you didn't know anyone was there to begin with?

you find em on scan with a 360* and then locate them with 5* ..so if you never knew they were there, why would you need to have more range??

One meight assume is a plain nerf. Why D-Scan should be nerfed?
Tools facilitating ships "meetting" (so to speak) one each other should be improved, not nerfed.
