Cheap fit, Semi-Low Skill Amarr L4 Ship advice

Hello. Looking to start running Level 4's in Amarr space. Have been researching a bit & starting to narrow down my choices. For starters; I know a NM or Mach would be boss, but simply can't afford to fly them or fit them properly yet so not going to try. Also, officer & faction gear is pretty much out for the moment as well until I start building up funds. At the moment, the ships I'm looking at & probably the most expensive I'm willing to buy are either a Napoc or a Legion. Both look to be in the 450million (+/-) or so range, unfitted.

From what I've read, it seems most would prefer the Napoc over the Legion. However; in my case, I'm wondering if the Legion may be better based on my skills (or rather, lack of skills). Can be using t2 Medium Lasers in 2 weeks or so, will be a month & a half for Large t2's. Also only have Amarr BS to 3. 4 will only take 5 days, but 5 will be over a month. Strategic Cruiser skills are pretty fast levels on the other hand.

Eventually I would like to own & properly fit both. However, to start making that ISK until I have the funds & skills to pimp fit, which would be the most forgiving of a meta4 lasers/ t2 other fittings poop build? Also bear in mind, that I'm aware it may be cheaper initially to go with a t1 Apoc or something of the sort. I figure I would wind up just getting rid of it down the road however, so was looking to get something that would start off good or at least decent, but get even better once I've fully grown into it & be a keeper.
Looking to stick with Amarr ships at the moment also. Can fly some others, just don't want to for now.

So, Napoc or Legion? Or something else or some other factors I'm overlooking, unaware of, or too dumb to realize? lol Thanks for any helpful advice or comments & also thanks for taking the time to read all this.

Best I can remember my friend went with Abaddon for level 4s while he got his skills up, then switched into an Armageddon and finally into a Nightmare. Legion is ok for level 4s but needs a little pimp thrown at it to shine.

Not today spaghetti.

Thanks for the input. Was actually considering an Abaddon or Navy 'Geddon just wasn't sure if I could fit them as well as a Napoc due to cap issues. Planning to eventually pimp whatever I go with, just got to make that Isk first with a less pimped version. To be totally honest I have got to admit I'm leaning towards the Legion just because I think it looks so much cooler. lol Kinda hoping someone will say "Legion's the bomb! Go for it!", but aware I'm biased & don't want to wind up messing myself over. That's why I figured all the knowledgeable folks here would probably have some good advice even if it's not what I want to hear.Smile

P Good to hear. Recall reading that Scorch seems to be the t2 crystal of choice...which leads me back to my original question as I can be firing medium Scorch about a month or so sooner than large Scorch if I get a Legion first...Or am I just back to hearing what I want to hear? Big smile

As someone who went this route all the way to Paladin...turn around....while lasers are fine against Sanshas and Bloods, they're AWFUL against Angels and Guristas. Getting L4 missions while in Amarr space doesn't guarantee that you will be fighting EM weak mobs, and grinding your way through a mission like an Angel Extravaganza in a laser boat is painful.

Gun skills and laser skills have the same secondaries, train up for hybrids or projectiles, and they're more usable in PvP when compared to missiles.

If you are going to go live in null sec with either Sanshas or Bloods, lasers work great, but in missions...not the right tool for the job.

I will echo the above poster. Make sure you can use a second weapon system. The majority of your missions in Amarr space will be against EM/Thermal weak rats, but some will not.

You can quite easily train up to Large Projectile Turrets IV and Minmatar BS IV and then use a Maelstrom. You will also need shield tanking skills, but again, 3-4 days and you will be good enough.

Thanks for all the new input. No worries in regards to other weapons. Can actually use t2 Large Rails & only a few days from t2 Large Blasters. Have both Gallente & Caldari BS to 4 & can armor tank pretty well & shield tank almost as well. Have a Domi & a Mega if I need them, just don't really want to fly a Cal/Gal BS at the moment if I can avoid it. That's why I'm training into the Amarr ships & looking to run some in missions. Never really got "into" Mim ships, just a personal aesthetics thing I suppose. Nothing against them though & wouldn't talk trash about them, just don't want to fly them...except for the cargo boats for some reason. lol Oddly enough, I LOVE my Mammoth & Hoarder...just not any of the combat ships.

If your dead set for amar L4s and worried about damage types the BS balance may be just what your looking for. IF the rumors about drone geddon follows then the answer could well be to train for sentries. Selectable damage types and lots of lows for tank and drone damage amps. That of course depends on which side of the (afk) drone nerf with the AI changes.

All that becomes moot however once you can transition into the obvious vindi you seem to be all but ready for already.

Well, thanks for all the kind responses. I had forgotten the Vindi. Don't have the 1.5 Billion ISK or so at the moment, but now I'm heading towards it as a goal. In the meanwhile I decided to get a Navy Mega as my L4 mission boat. Had forgotten those as well & like it much more than I had my basic t1 Mega. Still plan on eventually getting a Legion just because I think they are freakin' cool as hell!Lol For now though, it just makes sense to go with a strong, solid ship I can already fit & use decently. Thanks again for all the comments & time. Fly safe & have fun!
