Worrying Use of Forums' "Quote" Feature

I was recently involved in a spirited debate in the Markets section of this forum, which naturally involved lots of quotations and responses. During this clash of intellectual titans a... shall we generously say, "immature" player came in and quoted me, replacing what I had actually typed with the words "i am a huge homo". Now let me first say that I have nothing against homosexuals, and I believe that what two consenting adults choose to engage in is none of my business; but I have to take real issue with the fact that the forums' Quotation function can be so grossly misused as to replace my half of a dialectic with a crude (and false) declaration of my sexual preferences.

The thread has since been pruned (rightfully so), but that does nothing to solve the underlying issue.

Goon Tears ?

Seriously ?

Over THIS ?

EDIT: Also, your vaguely "some of my best friends are gy" and "I'm horrified of being accused of such" attitude in your post smacks of more homophobia than the joke quotage being discussed.

Actually that's a good lesson we can all remember, about how we are permanently given informations without thinking of verifying them.
One day, people will -hopefully- stop taking false facts / declarations as true despite the fact that they aren't.

E.g : This last EvE-UNI botting thing where people with dignity, proudness and anger, were bashing CCP for things that appeared entierly false.

But until then... When a quote seems strange, it's better to verify it !

For all the asshattery that goons have pulled in game, who knew that their egos could so easily be bruised on the forums.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

I can't tell if people are actually falling for a troll, or playing along with it...

I understood it was a troll, I didn't think I had actually said "i am a huge homo" and forgotten about it, or something.

I thought the proper response to "You're a homo" was come back alluding to having fornicated with the accuser's mother, not asking CCP to nerf the forums.

OP, you're doing it wrong.

I don't judge people by their race, religion, color, size, age, gender, or ethnicity. I judge them by their grammar, spelling, syntax, punctuation, clarity of expression, and logical consistency.

Seems to be working just fine.

Loss is meaningful. Therefore is the loss of meaning likewise meaningful. It is the source of all trolling.

Ever see that movie 'Half Baked' with Dave Chappelle?

Know near the end where the cops get all stoned from being in the van while their smoking then they read the letter Thorogood gave them to give to Mary Jane, and then they give the letter back to him after the meeting with Sampson and the cop leans into Thorogood and goes 'queer'.... know that part?

I use it a lot around these forums to myself and chuckle whenever I do... I read the OP and chuckled just now...

I agree.

The ability to edit a quote shouldn't be a forum feature. The only person that should be able to edit what is written is the person that wrote it.

If you detele a quote for the sake of pyramid quoting, which you should be doing because it frowned upon, you should have to detlet the entire post, not be able to cut them up to use only the bits and peices you want.

I see it used a lot on forums to pull things out of context.
It's a dirty way of debating; which kind of the point of a forum.

This happened to me once.

I contacted the person in question, who apologised and amended the altered 'quote' by me.
