Skill Queue Advice

I'm very sure this question has arisen many, many times however i fail in finding it so here it is again

I'm millitary and so can expect to be away for a fair amount of time, recently i had an account banned for account sharing, in order to keep my skill plan updated for the several months i was without internet, which i openly admitted to. now i understand that eve's skill plan is there in place of 'grinding' like other games to advance so actually I'm not feeling put out by the fact that i may have to go for months without advancing, but it would be great if there was something i could do in order not to loose a large amount of SP that i would otherwise have been able to get had my circumstances been different. i obviously would like to avoid that ban happening again too (lol).

so my question,

is there a method to continue training in some fashion while i am deployed? i pay yearly subscription so the account is always active.

for the dumb-ass trolls who only half read and rarely understand ill make part of that a little more simple:
i broke EULA, admitted it and took a punishment in the past.

I've never heard of an account sharing ban before.

If you queue a long skill, it will train as long as the account subscription is active.

Beyond that, there is no way out-of-game to update the skill queue.

I have questions. They may or may not be any of my business, but I see no harm if you could answer them.

How long was the ban?
How did CCP find out? Did someone rat you out?
Were they simpathetic to your situation? Did they offer any alternative?
Was someone actually playing your account? or just skilling only?
Can you get a refund while you're away?
How 'skilled' is the character already?

I also have a solution of sorts.
You can *sell* the character to a trusted friend or a trusted 3rd party. You would need your full refund from the main account, then give the new owner funds to train as you like. Costs would be the value of 2 transfers, and monthly plex cost (around 500 million) + 'something' for that players time.
Details could be hashed out, but you get the idea.

- 2 weeks
- i have no idea (lol) THEY SEE ALL
- they have no idea of my situation, this is the first time i have explained and it all happened on a seperate (unnamed) account.
- i believe the account that got banned had been left online for a long period of time (more than 12 hours) and is in a different country which may be how they were able to detect it. because i came clean straight away there was no explination or evidence given.
- im not terribly concerned about a refund to be honest, this was more just to see if there was an alternative. i didnt realise that CCP were quite so hot on this, i certainly wasnt expecting a ban (!) lol but in fairness rulez is rulez so i wont argue the point.
- the char in question is less than 10mil sp so every moment counts and skills are short but this applies to all of my chars despite the one in question being so dislocated from the rest, obviously now ive tied them together too lol.

id rather not foot the cost of 2 plex if im honest, and passing the account over could open up other issues too but thank you for the reply.

Do you have a Partner/Spouse/Children that can use the same PC that you would normally use to play? They could do the skill training for you. Given that it is the same PC I doubt that they would be able to detect that a different person is at the keyboard :) If I remember correctly this type of Account sharing is not disallowed by the EULA, but I could be wrong on this. I know of at least a few families that play and they keep each others skill queue going this way.

Why would an account have to be online for 12+ hours just to be sitting skills?

I sincerely doubt that CCP would intervene, if you appointed someone to skill-sit your account and that person really did only that and nothing else. The alternative would be for CCP to lose months of subscription time.

CCP gets reports of 'bots' all the time. If they had reason to look into the character, they would see a different IP address.

That's just 1 guess.

Since the rules are the rules and you don't want to use the transfer character mechanism since it would "waste" two plex for the transfer to the holder then two more to get the character back your best bet may be the character bazaar.

Since CCP doesn't want people sharing an account the technical way to do it is sell your character for isk, go on deployment and when you get back buy PLEX for however months you were gone and use the isk from the PLEX and the sold character to buy a new one with the skills you want. That still spends two plex fo the transfer, but the seller is the one that bears that cost so you only pay it out of your pocket once instead of twice. You also aren't guaranteed an ideal character since you're putting up with someone else's training plan, name and reputation...so it's no wonder people take the chance to share characters for skill training.

I think the real reason behind the no-sharing rule is to avoid incidents and drama.

For what it is worth, I'm friendly with a small corp that is composed of people currently serving in Afghanistan. They seem to do okay; I think their Internet connection is better than mine. Shocked

it was the answer to a question posed by another user, to paraphrase, it was left online for a long period accidentally because the guy forgot to log off. unless my character took a vacation i assure you there is no doubt to sincerely have.

this was my guess, the big change in location would have stuck out like a sore thumb if, indeed, CCP were monitoring or investigating such things.

absolutely, i dont disagree with the EULA.

Its good to hear, im actually a submariner so unfortunately the internet is one of many things that are totally dislocated from my deployed life xD, keep up the good dusty work though!

thank you for your reply, i can see your logic but i think i would probably prefer to keep the char untrained just because its mine if you know what i mean. good helpful post though.
