The part I don't understand is that CCP endorsed the book. So if it's so lore breaking as people exclaim, why did CCP not prevent it's release or at least revise certain sections?

Stuff like this isn't rare in the videogame-novel world. A lot of companies seem to endorse a novel even if it trashes lore (a perfect example being Mass Effect: Deception). I think it's because the creators didn't read it beforehand, so instead of active endorsement they just quietly pretend that it doesn't exist after a while.

I'm brand new to EVE so this might not be the case.

Many people have actually considered some recent plotlines in the live events to be "repairing" the events on the novels. Yes, they happened, and are so-called Prime Fiction. Most people, however, don't have knowledge of the events. (No, perverts - even Istvaan hasn't managed to infiltrate the Empress's bedchamber, and it's not because he wouldn't want to!)

I was going to write a longer post about TEA, but probably not worth it. If you like Ruthless and Theodicy novellas, you'll probably like it as an okay "game novel". I liked it so much that I decided that Templar One is probably crap without needing to read a single line, because they have the same writer. (Okay, despite the lore whoopsies, I do kind of like Ruthless.) For most, the Burning Life is a good infodump. If you like the Black Mountain series and other chronicles by Abraxas, you'll probably like the Burning Life as a novel, too. If you hate Abraxas's style, you probably won't like the Burning Life as a novel either, though it may still have infodump value.

I dislike TonyG's writing style. I also despise the cheapness of the Broker and all plot points surrounding him. Otherwise though I think all three novels are worth reading at least once as ultimately there is only so much in-depth prime fiction and they contain quite a bit of it.
