Bumping is a perfectly legitimate mechanic to use. There are counters, but they require team mates and imagination.

Fair enough, if bumping required team mates and imagination. Clearly it doesn't. It's a solo activity that can be done in the cheapest of ships with zero risk to the aggressor. You rarely get more broken then this.

Some sort of hull damage on collision would be my preference but there will be much rage over this.

Popping Ventures that float into LowSec is a solo activity with zero risk to the aggressor. Is that broken, too? Also, hull damage on collision would be used in our favor, not the other way around. We'd watch an orbiting mining barge, park in the path, wait for entertainment.

Large massed vehicles would do more damage on ramming. They're also slower which decreases ramming speed. Applying collision damage based on natural force mechanics would work as long as you didn't give MWD too big of a force increase.

Also I would imagine that multiple current collision issues would be solved at the same time they add this.

E.g.

1) changing where and how people exist stations and gates to avoid collisions
2) changing it so that approach doesn't approach to 0
3) changing it so that if you don't decide to collide with someone your ship moves out of the way instead of bumping them

When turned off, ship cannot bump.

When turned on, ship can bump but ship will take damage based on mass of the target. Bumping a freighter with a frigate will end up with a freighter with a small smear on the front of it's hull.
