No I generally want to know about taking out a POS, becuase it seems fun and more and more people are doing it these days, which makes me think it must make some fun money xD

POS bashing? Fun?!
Either you're trolling us, or you *really* have no business flying a Dred.

If PVP isn't fun, then what is the point of it? I've attacked a POS before, (long time ago) and it was pretty fun, although the CEO logged on and threatened us with a fleet of 60 ships lol, but isn't that the fun in it? Who cares if you lose :P
And why the hell is so many people going on about me trolling you? when all i'm doing is looking what other people think, to see the best options when attacking a POS, as last time I joined in a POS attack, it was a fail and everyone bailed...

POS bashing isn't generally considered to be fun, exactly. It is basically the PvP equivalent of mining. You sit there in space and grind away at it, potentially for a very long time depending on how many friends you have. If you have a good group in comms and a few beers it could be sort of fun, I suppose, just not as much fun as shooting spaceships.

Generally speaking, not many people attack POSes for fun. Usually there is some purpose to it. Maybe you want that moon for yourself, maybe you want to provoke a fight with the owner, or to destroy his assets if he is an enemy to you. Go ahead and give it a try, though, if it sounds like a good time to you. Be sure to update this thread to let us all know what POS you are going to attack and when you want to do it. We are all rooting for you.Big smile

I'm pretty sure a dread with a capital armor repairer or capital shield booster and enough capacitor to run it would be able to take on some POSes alone, however it's not uncommon for them to have energy neutralizers on them. I've been in groups that sieged POSes without breaking a sweat, but we had 40+ people in battleships and logistics. It would also take well over an hour to get the shield down even with that many people helping.

Once we had a dreadnought fleet come help us. There were about 10-15 dreadnoughts which all went into siege mode and started firing at the POS. They took it down from around 80% to reinforced in about 20 minutes IIRC. One lone dreadnought would probably take several hours to take out a POS, and you'd need to replenish ammo once in a while.

FT Diomedes: "Reaver, sometimes I wonder what you are thinking when you sit down to post."

Frostys Virpio: "We have to give it to him that he does put more effort than the vast majority in his idea but damn does it sometime come out of nowhere."

I have pretty much done and learnt about everything in highsec, and wanted to know about capitals, taking out a POS in more detail. I have looked all over the internet, but didn't actually find a good site telling me about it all, I found very slim information, and I have been looking deeply into what I want to do in EVE now for a long time... So I was curious about capital warfare/taking out a POS, as i'm looking to try something different in EVE.

Nothing wrong with that. We all started somewhere.

But here's a very big hint.

A single capital ship is absolutely useless. A capital fleet is marginally useful. A capital fleet supported by a subcapital fleet is practically unstoppable.

If you want to play with your capital ships you HAVE to join a corp/alliance. If you fly alone you will eventually get caught and killed. Even tracking dreads can't track everything. Even triage carriers can be taken down with surprisingly little DPS when you're neuted out.

If you're in a small gang of capital ships with an FC who knows what he is doing you'll be ok. If you're alone it takes an instant to scan out a capital ship due to their massive sig radius, and only a few more seconds to warp to it and point it. When you're pointed you can't jump either. So that's you done. Game over. That guy can literally hold you there all day long while he calls his friends. So get some experience before you get killed.

1) get friends
1a) if tower is medium get more friends
1b) if tower is large get even more friends
2) check at least some friends are logi pilots in logi ships
3) get cloaky ship to make points at optimals off warp scam\disruptor batteries
4) shoot warp scram\disrup batteries until they incap
5) if logi are struggling to keep everyone repped, shoot at large guns until incapped
6) shoot at tower until it's reinforced
7) wait n times (n is defined by how much stront is in the tower, no way of knowing beforhand)
8) come back with friends and shoot at tower until it explodes
9a) fix guns\warp batteries and unanchor, unanchor anything else that's left at the pos
9b) just make all the things explode
10) drop you're own pos

The trouble you'll have doing it solo in a dread is when you siege you can't move\runaway\cancel siege until it's done so you're just sat there.
There's also the warp scram batteries that can stop you warping away.
That and the fact that with 4bil on field you'd be better off with a handful of battleships than a solo dread.

Good luck with your pos bash, hope it's "fun" and you learn a load (mostly that people are pussies and won't fight)
