Hello Space Friends;

During the course of my forum posting adventures, I have come across people arguing with each other in a thread. No, for real, I swear it's true. I wouldn't like to you about something like this. Or at all, because I am always honest. Back on topic, it seems that there is some disagreement among the EVE General Discussion crowd about what exactly constitutes a "carebear" in EVE Online the popular space-themed MMO produced by CCP, hf. I would like to solicit the opinions of my dearest and most upstanding friends to determine the proper definition. The purpose of this solicitation is to create a definitive definition which I can later reference whenever the topic is broached in conversation. I am honestly very confused by all the different people using different meanings of the word, and I think a single meaning agreed upon by at least two people in this thread would be helpful in future instances where I feel like thumping my chest and thumbing my nose at someone else's lack of space popularity.

A carebear is someone that is too afraid of their own shadow to do anything anywhere at anytime. Mainly those that sit in hisec complaining about Adrenaline Junkies, Drunks, Brawlers, Haters, Griefers, Hethens, Miscreants, Pirates, and general ne'er do wells.

Some days you're the bug, and some days your the windscreen.                   And some days, you're just a man with a gun.

Carebear

n. A pilot who gets all excited about shooting space pixels that don't shoot back.

"Darius III is the biggest carebear fagget I know."
"No, Nyota Uhura, that fukcing shipspinner, is even bigger."
"Wow. Just wow."

v. (intransitive) 1. To engage in spaceship activities that would not, strictly speaking, require being online due to lack of real human player interaction. 2. To escape one's duties towards one's corporation or alliance while collecting ISK instead.

"Nyota was carebearing throughout the whole CTA again."
"Pod that maggot again and bring me her frozen body."

So long as you include Hulks, Retrievers, and pretty much any anything that just dies in seconds in the first example it pretty much covers the entire population of EVE. For example; Hammer Hulks all day, they cannot fight back personally and no matter how you play it from those teary messages of hate sent to your mail box you use for erotic literature and mentally masturbate to, some hokey religion jihading about protecting rocks with blasters Roll, or trying to control virtual markets like a real world CEO yet you live in a trailer in RL...the end result is the same. Hulks just freaking die, along with Macks, Retrievers, any thing that is just the snooze fest that is called mining and they cannot really shoot back regardless if T2 drones are circling them cause you hammer them so fast they die before the drones can really respond. They can't shoot back, you win, your a carebear while CONCORD comes in to give you a gold stick for your kill board.

And same thing applies to mission ships, in order of superiority its PVP > PVE > NPC so in effect if your picking on PVE ships in your PVP fit with the advantage the PVE not fitting a scram, web, or buffer fit your basicly a pussy that picks on ships that cannot fight back effectively (cause have any mission ship really won a fight against another player PVP ship?) just as much as a PVE ship that only blasts NPC ships. Yeah, pretty much if it can't fight back your just awesome at destroying it...amirite?

Yeah, pretty much everyone is a carebear.

A player who grinds PvE activities (such as incursions, mining, and missioning), sees Eve as a linear game with "progression" (for example, "working" from a Drake to a CNR), and complains about non-consensual PvP.

carebear definition

n.
a nice person who is against violence and disputes. (Especially in the domain of computer games. From the name of a set of lovable children's characters.) : These carebears don't want us to play the really good games!

I've always used "carebear" as some mix of these three things:

1) Anyone who thinks they should be able to do whatever their chosen activity is with no interference by other players and no threat to their precious whatevers. This group breaks down into: missionbears, incursion bears, miners, and nullbears. These are the guys who want CCP to make things ever easier for what THEY do, often at the expense of the rest of the community.

2) Anyone who over-invests in something and becomes outraged when it is lost or stolen. These people did not pay attention to the First Rule of Eve: "Don't fly what you can't afford to lose."

3) People who think everyone should approach this game with their same sense of morality and play the game on their terms, regardless of what the game rules and mechanics are designed to allow.

I sometimes refer to myself as a former carebear, but the truth is I can't really see myself as that now that I think about it. I thought little of losing ships and accepted it as a risk of the wormhole daytripping that I did. While I sometimes marvelled at what might possess someone to want to play a certain way, I certainly never demanded or expected everyone to abide by my rules. So I guess I wasn't so much a carebear as just a dude making isk at PvE and avoiding risk as best I could.

a carebear is someone who plays the way they want to play without telling others the way they should play, example, a lot of people ***** that people mine, miners do NOT ***** that people kill each other in nullsec.. since miners dont ***** about nullsec kiddies they are carebears, because they don't care.

Somebody who avoids risk of any type, be it financial or otherwise.

So a highsec industrialist or trader who invests large quantities in isk in ways which may or may not pay off is not a carebear, while on the other hand, a 0.0 sanctum runner who won't x up to defend the system when needed is a carebear.

Im a Carebear and proud of it. Bear

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Care_Bears

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Care_Bear_characters

Like if you are also a carebear Bear

If you need a deeper explanation of what is a carebear its not that simple. Best way to put it is to show differences between carebears and everybody else:

EX 1.)

Non carebears go like this:

Rifter ---> wolf --> dictor ---> hac ---> ??? ----> suicide brutix ---> arti tyfoon....

Carebears go like this:

Retriver ---> hulk ---> orca ---> transport ships ---> freighter --- JF ----> Super cap....

As you can see "a carebear ships" never costs less then 200 mill.... maybe at some/early stages it costs less but its totaly cool if you have 2 faction mods on it at all times.

EX 2.)

Carebears look at red on KB and show off to each other how much crap they lost and how easy was to replace it

Other non carebears look at green and show off on how much damage in ISK they did.

A carebear will never post kills he has made.... unless its like something realy wierd.... like him out dpsing a titan cause he had estamel mods on his caracal navy and similar stuff...

EX 3.)

Why carebears emo rage about getting killed in lovsec? Its not because they got killed. Its because they dont understand why did you kill their ship insted of just making them give you isk. THey have it.... It the badger with tritanium so important to you? 10 mill isk kill? Dude ill give oyu 20 mill to let me go i need the trit... you know....

Its just 2 worlds. We dont get it why you shoot 1 mill isk ships.... you dont understand why we mine veldspar.... Takes you 1 hour of gate camping to kill 1 hauler (1 mill isk) in the mean time i mine about 6 mill of veldspar Blink We both have fun but i win Bear

But ill tell you a real secret..... about carebear tears.... We only cry when we see a t2 bpo on killmail... CryCryCry

America Cares Bear (2003) is a happy, patriotic, and energetic bear who believes that America's greatest strengths are caring, helping others, and teamwork; evidently an attempt by the American regime to cover up their global atrocities by targetting the fragile mind of the world's youth.

orly.

2.44 baby (last I looked)

Kills on neutrals with aggression, war targets, and those in wormholes and nullsec have no impact on sec status. it's possible to acquire quite a lot of kills without going negative. I'm just getting started.
