10-Hour Deletion Timer for brand new characters... why?

Shouldn't the character deletion timer only apply to people who have invested a certain amount of skill points. I made a new character and then decided to alter the name a bit. Having trained not one single skill or so much as taken him out of the captains quarters I have to wait 10 hours to delete this guy and there is no renaming capability for EVE.

Come on now. I understand why they have the timer, but it really needs a skill point requirment before it kicks into effect.

I suppose to prevent you from spaming new characters for nefarious purposes.

Looking to talk on VOIP with other EVE players? Are you new and need help with EVE (welfare) or looking for advice? Looking for adversarial debate with angry people?

Then they need to allow people to change their name, facial structure or whatever within the first 10 hours. 10 hours is just ridiculous. At least put a warning stating that you cannot delete a character immediately after you make it.

So your name on the screen isn't enough warning before you click submit?

It's 10 hours, 600 minutes, 36,000 seconds, go outside and smell the whatever, drink to oblivion and start it again tomorrow.

Obviously not.

Did the same thing the other day when i created a new char. I had removed the "familiy name" part yet I ended up with my char having the same second name twice like "Mr Anderson Anderson".

But as other people said, it's 10 hours, goto sleep and do it over the next day.

Kind of why you have 3 character slots. Just use another pilot while you wait or go do something else, it use to be 24 hours so lucky you.

Also the timer isn't there just to protect the player.

Actually, there is. Simply choose an offensive/derogatory name, get petitioned, and CCP will either allow you to choose a new name, or will generously induct you into the ranks of (race) Citizen (number)

Otherwise, the deletion cooldown timer is a good measure. The fact that you 'choose a bad name' is hardly reason to remove the current system that protects people from "I was drunk and accidentally my main/A girl phoned and my girlfriend lost her ****/MY LITTLE BROTHER THE COMPUTER" and allows them to recover the character from deletion without petition hassles.

You can petition name changes for new characters, like if you forgot to have a letter in capitals or just spelled it wrong.

If you get the capitalization of your letters wrong, you can petition to get that fixed as that does not create a new database entry. There is no excuse to fly around as AnDrEW mADhUmPinGThiNgS.

As far as I know, there's only one thing stopping you from making as many new characters as you like.

$9.99

or if you're a huge cheapskate, trial accounts with multiple email addresses.

So...working as intended, workarounds provided, what exactly don't you get, OP?

My point of buying more instead of measuring is gaining traction!

SUCCESS!!
